If director Tim Burton makes Beetlejuice 3, that would completely take off the filmmaker's career onto new heights!
Tim Burton is credited for bringing a cultural force in Hollywood, with his unique exploration of the gothic horror genre in his films. His last released film, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, has been a huge success, garnering upto a whopping collection of $451,900,435 globally.
Even though there has not been any confirmation about the helmer of its sequel Beetlejuice 3, but if Tim Burton is finalised to direct the film, it would all come in full circle.
Let us dissect more into it.
How Beetlejuice 3 could help Tim Burton achieve a career first
Tim Burton's last release, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, is a sequel to Burton's classic film Beetlejuice from 1988. After 36 years of the OG film's release, its sequel was made.
After the success of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, people have been anticipating for its threequel, and the film franchise would be incomplete if Tim Burton does not helm its third installment, Beetlejuice 3. After all, Beetlejuice has been born out of Tim Burton's mind, so it would make complete justice to the franchise if Burton only continues with it.
As per a 2024 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the Sleepy Hollow director, when asked about making the sequel of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, did not seem too keen about developing it into a threequel. Burton also mentioned about the long gap of time he took to make the sequel of Beetlejuice, as he says:
“Well, if [the same] time frame goes on, I’ll be about 100. So maybe. I doubt it.”
Even though Tim Burton has made sequels to his films, for instance, Batman (1989), and Batman Returns (1992), but never has he stepped onto the realm of shaping his movies into a trilogy. If Beetlejuice 3 is directed by him, the first ever trilogy of Tim Burton would also come in place.
The films of Tim Burton that were released before Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, such as Dumbo (2019), and Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (2016), had received varied response from the critics. But Beetlejuice Beetlejuice has been loved immensely by the audiences and critics alike, and his earlier style of filmmaking has been revived in this film as well.
Beetlejuice 3, as per recent reports, is in progress. But no confirmation or announcement has been made about Tim Burton's involvement in it as a director. In order to have an authentic sense of the Beetlejuice franchise, and also for Tim Burton's career to reach a new high, his involvement in Beetlejuice 3 would certainly hit the bulls' eye.
Tim Burton does not seem to be someone who is driven by the idea of sequels. In fact, at a press conference at Venice Film Festival in 2024, the director talked the reason that provoked him to make Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. He even mentions how he did not even watch the OG film in order to make its sequel, as he says:
“I wasn’t out to do a big sequel for money or anything like that, I wanted to make this for very personal reasons.”
“Like I said, I didn’t watch the first movie to prepare for this. I remembered the spirit of it and I remembered everybody here.”
