High Ground: Release date news, cast details, streaming details and more about Jon Voight's upcoming action thriller film

Paramount's Republic Pictures recently dropped a trailer for a new Western called High Ground starring Jon Voight, Charlie Weber, Katherine McNamara, and more. The film is set for a digital release in March 2025, which is also when we will see Jack Quaid's Novocaine hitting the screens.

The film will be available on digital platforms but it's still uncertain on which ones, though Paramount+ is naturally the top pick. Although don't confuse the name with the 2020 movie of the same name that streams on platforms like Prime Video.

James Bamford, who has directed 17 episodes of Arrow, is helming High Ground. Bamford is known for his stunt coordination, so we can expect a lot of thrilling sequences in the upcoming film. Bill Sondheim and John Thaddeus have written it. The former comes in as a debut writer, having produced films before.

When is High Ground releasing?

Paramount Pictures has scheduled High Ground for release on March 18, 2025. The film will be directly available for fans to stream on digital platforms. There aren't many movies coming in the same month from the company, but 2025 as a whole be a busy year for it.

Other than the Jon Voight starrer, we have the highly-anticipated Mission: Impossible: The Final Reckoning scheduled to hit the big screen on May 23, 2025. Other movies slated for this year include, Smurfs, The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants, The Running Man, and more.

The cast of High Ground

The 86-year-old Jon Voight still has what it takes to be an action hero. He will play Ezra Wilcott in the film. Other than his role of the parplegic Luke Martin in Coming Home (1978), for which he won an Oscar, he is known for Midnight Cowboy (1969), Mission: Impossible (1996), Transformers (2007), Pride and Glory (2008), among other films.

High Ground also features Charlie Weber as Jake Wilcott, the lead character in the film. The actor has a range of roles under his belt, from movies to video games. He appeared in a recurring role of Ben Wilkinson in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and has also given his voice to Staff Sergeant Dunn in the first-person shooter Battlefield 4 (2013).

Katherine McNamara, who is a singer alongside being an actress, is Cassie Becker in the film. She is best recalled as Mia Smoak in Arrow.

Henry Thomas plays Nathaniel Matheson, a mysterious prisoner because of whom the entire department will have to face a cartel.

What is High Ground about?

The film is a modern western. Its plot (via IMDb) reads:

"When a mysterious prisoner lands in his jail, a border town sheriff faces the wrath of a brutal cartel."

The High Ground trailer gave us a glimpse of the story, and we see some cartel members led by James Oliver Wheatley's Marcus Novak on a hunt with companions in black shiny jackets.
