Heart Eyes: release date, cast, plot and more

Valentine's Day this year is coming with a horror twist as the best of both worlds, horror and romance, come together in Josh Ruben's Heart Eyes. Labeled as a horror romantic comedy, co-stars Olivia Holt and Mason Gooding are being hunted by a killer with heart eyes.

The film is co-written by Phillip Murphy, Michael Kennedy, and Christopher Landon with a promise to be a thrilling ride with a dash of all the right Valentine's Day elements- romance and comedy. Here's everything you need to know about Heart Eyes.

When will Heart Eyes be released?

The film is all set to release on February 7th, 2025 in theatres and has released one trailer so far. Coming from Josh Ruben, who isn't exactly unfamiliar with the elements of horror having previously worked on 2020’s Scare Me and 2021’s Werewolves Within, the film will bring together three different genres in one for a thrilling ride, and one that will surely glue viewers to their seats.

Heart Eyes plot speculations

The official synopsis of the film reads,

“When the Heart Eyes Killer strikes Seattle, a pair of co-workers pulling overtime on Valentine’s Day are mistaken for a couple by the elusive couple-hunting killer. Now they must spend the most romantic night of the year running for their lives.”

The trailer for Heart Eyes shows both protagonists being hunted by a masked killer who wears heart eyes. The trailer shows how the killer has consistently killed couples on Valentine's Day without any clear motive. The film also has gory elements in it, like any other horror film, but the romantic and comedic twists will certainly introduce fans to something new and fresh.

The film is being produced by Christopher Landon, Greg Gilreath, and Adam Hendricks with Spyglass Media Group.

Heart Eyes will be Ruben's biggest one to date. Talking about his excitement for the film he said,

“My love of horror is rivaled only by my love of romantic comedies. I’m excited as hell to mount my most challenging genre bender to date: a brutal slasher in a nostalgic rom-com universe.”

Who will be in the cast of Heart Eyes?

Heart Eyes stars Mason Gooding and Olivia Holt as the protagonists. Fans of the Scream universe will know Gooding's ties to the horror genre as she plays one of the main characters in the franchise. Meanwhile, Holt has previously starred in Amazon Prime's Totally Killer.

Other than them, the film also stars Jordana Brewster, Gigi Zumbado, and Devon Sawa.
