The Fablemans star Sam Rechner has been reportedly added to Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media's latest slashes thriller rendition, Scream 7. The seventh part will be released in theatres in 2026, with Kevin Williamson (the original creator) directing the piece.
Neve Campbell will reprise her iconic role Sydney Prescott alongside an ensemble cast including Patrick Dempsey, Courteney Cox, Isabel May, Asa Germann, and Celeste O’Connor. However, there has been no confirmation yet on the character that will be played by Sam Rechner.
Furthermore, Ghostbusters: Afterlife star McKenna Grace has also been included in the cast following the exit of Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega (who originally played the Carpenter sisters). Though we still do not have an official logline for Scream 7, it is quite evident that Campbell's character Sydney Prescott will get the limelight with Matthew Lilard's Stu Macher speculatively returning from the dead.
Has Sam Rechner been added to the cast of Scream 7?
Sam Rechner has officially joined the Scream 7 cast alongside lead star Neve Campbell but his exact role has not been confirmed yet. Also, Ghostbusters star McKenna Grace has been added to the list.
Both of these new additions are probably because of the Carpenter sisters dropping out of the cast, thereby leading to a massive shakeup in the production. But fans are still waiting for the plot to be revealed as speculations keep coming in.
However, the introduction of these new characters may act like direct analogs to already established characters like Stu Macher and Skeet Ulrich. We will supposedly see Rechner playing a school friend of Sydney's daughter who is now at a similar age as her mother was during her first Ghostface encounter.
When is Scream 7 going to be released?
Scream 7 will arrive at theatres across the United States on February 27, 2026. The confirmation came from a post on Neve Campbell's social media handle where we see a graphic display of the release date marked on the calendar using an animated dagger, which is the murder of Ghostface. The fact that Sydney Prescott is returning to the big screen was earlier confirmed by Campbell herself on her Instagram profile.
Scream 6 was quite a success grossing $108 million in the global box office while contributing to a total sum of over $900 million from all the movies in the franchise. The 2026 sequel's production was left in question after a number of stars left the set.
However, the involvement of Sam Rechner leaves many possibilities open for the story's continuance. With Prescott doing a pretty good job over the years in fighting off Ghostface, she now has to protect the others from a potentially new antagonist.
It's like when the franchise adds a new member in the cast as a victim, we can also expect a new killer lurking around the corner. So, the new set of young adults in the cast will supposedly turn the plot in a different direction this time.
