British author J. K. Rowling is the author of the Harry Potter series, which consists of seven fantasy novels. Harry Potter, a young wizard, and his friends, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, who are all Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry students, are the main characters in the novels. The story centers around Harry's battle with Lord Voldemort, a dark wizard who seeks to control all wizards and Muggles (those who are not magical), become immortal, and topple the Ministry of Magic, the organization that oversees wizards.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (1997)

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is Rowling's debut novel and the first book in the Harry Potter series. The story centers around a young wizard named Harry Potter who discovers his magical background after being accepted to the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry on his eleventh birthday. Harry makes some close friends and enemies in his first year at the school. Assisted by his friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, he confronts the dark wizard Lord Voldemort, who murdered Harry's parents but was unable to murder Harry when he was only 15 months old. He stops the dark wizard who is attempting to resurrect himself.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (1998)

The Harry Potter series' second book is titled Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. The story takes place during Harry's second year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry when several messages posted on the walls of the school's hallways warn that the "Chamber of Secrets" has been opened and that the "heir of Slytherin" will murder any students who do not come from 'pure' magical families. These threats are discovered following acts that terrorize school residents. Harry looks into the attacks all year long with the help of his friends, Ron and Hermione.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (1999)

The third volume of the Harry Potter series is Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. The story centers on Harry Potter during his third year at Hogwarts as he comes to know of Sirius Black, an escaped inmate from the magical prison Azkaban, who is thought to be one of Lord Voldemort's former accomplices.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2000)

The fourth book in the Harry Potter series is Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. The story centers on the mystery surrounding Harry Potter's name being entered into the Triwizard Tournament, where he is compelled to compete despite being too young, as a wizard in his fourth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2003)

The fifth book in the Harry Potter series is Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. The story follows Harry Potter's hardships throughout his fifth year at Hogwarts, including the obstructive Ministry of Magic, the reappearance of Lord Voldemort, and O.W.L. exams.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2005)

The sixth book in the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is set during Harry Potter's sixth year at Hogwarts. The story chronicles Harry's preparations for the eventual battle against Lord Voldemort and investigates incidents from Voldemort's early life.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (2007)

The seventh and last book in the Harry Potter series is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The story builds up to Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort's final confrontation.
