Glen Powell and Judd Apatow partner for a new comedy film at Universal, and here's everything we know about their collaboration

As per reports at Deadline, Glen Powell and Judd Apatow are teaming up to make a new comedy film, which is backed by Universal Pictures. The name of the film has not been revealed yet.

Along with writing the film together, Powell shall lead the cast, and Apatow shall take up the director's chair. The duo will also be producing the film, as Glen Powell collaborates with Dan Cohen to produce the film from the banner of Barnstorm Productions, their production company. Jude Apatow shall join under the banner Apatow Productions.

Along with them, Kevin Misher, who was the President of Production of Universal Pictures, is also on board to produce the film with Misher Films. Lastly, a producer from Universal Pictures will be teaming with them, too.

From Universal Pictures, we have Erik Baiers, the Senior Executive Vice President of Production Development, who shall supervise the forthcoming comedy film.

The film follows a plot that focuses on a musical star who is on the verge of diminishing. Notable films surrounding the "fallen star" trope have previously been made before, such as Walk the Line (2003), Crazy Heart (2009), Beyond the Lights (2014), A Star is Born (2018), etc. So, how this film tackles the premise, that too with comedy, is something to look forward to!

More about Glen Powell and Judd Apatow's other projects

This is not the first time Glen Powell is collaborating with Universal Pictures, and neither is Judd Apatow. However, Judd Apatow's association with Universal goes way back, as it began when Apatow started making films. The production company has supported Apatow's iconic film of 2005, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, starring Steve Carell, Catherine Keener, Romany Malco, and many others.

Since that film, the Emmy-winning helmer has further teamed up with the studio in his projects, the most recent being The King of Staten Island (2020). The other films include Knocked Up (2007), Funny People (2009), This is 40 (2012), and Trainwreck (2015).
