Gary Dauberman explains this Until Dawn game character's return in the latest horror adaptation and it will be 'just as crucial'

Until Dawn is a forthcoming survival horror film directed by David F. Sandberg. Written by Gary Dauberman and Blair Butler, the film is inspired by the namesake 2015 video game. While the storyline is original, the mythology in the film is derived from the video game.

In a recent Reddit AMA session, Dauberman spoke about the only character in the film that is taken from the video game. Without giving away spoilers, he said:

"Broadly speaking, his role in the movie is just as crucial as it was in the game."

Recently, Until Dawn co-writer and producer Gary Dauberman, along with director David F. Sandberg,k did an AMA on Reddit. Dauberman, without giving spoilers, revealed that there is a character in the film taken directly from the video game. He said:

"It's the same Dr. Hill from the game. I'm not sure how to answer your questions without getting into spoilers... But broadly speaking, his role in the movie is just as crucial as it was in the game. I know that's not as satisfactory of an answer as you'd like. If you want to get more specific with your question maybe I can get more specific with my answer (or maybe not depending...)."

In the video game, Dr. Hill is an imaginative character in Josh's head as the latter is coping with a trauma. His presence in the film is meant to establish a stronger connection with the source material.

Until Dawn marks the return of David F. Sandberg to the horror genre as a director. While the film's generic concept is based on the video game of the same name, the storyline is entirely original. In an interview with Screen Rant, Sandberg said that he did not want to do a direct remake of the game:

"So, I was very excited to read the script and see that it took Until Dawn further and did more with it, but also kept — when you play the game, the fun part of it is sort of replaying it and making different choices for the characters and see different deaths and all these things. And that was so brilliantly incorporated in movie form, which is non-interactive, but you can still get the different outcomes, which I thought was brilliant, and very exciting for me, who've been wanting to return to horror for a while."

Until Dawn is scheduled to be released on April 25, 2025.
