Viola Davis is back in action with G20, the latest high-octane thriller that premieres on April 10, 2025, on Prime Video. Davis stars as US President Danielle Sutton who joins world leaders for the titular summit to discuss the way out of a potential global crisis in Cape Town, South Africa. It seems like a safe place for the meeting until it gets invaded by a group of terrorists. So, President Sutton does everything in her power to put an end to their destructive plans.

Patricia Riggen directed this film while Caitlin Parrish, Logan Miller, Erica Weiss, and Noah Miller wrote the script. Viola Davis' JuVee Productions backed this project along with the Amazon MGM Studios. The film is roughly two hours long and offers a dose of adrenaline rush to anyone looking for the same.

The production design brings the best out of Cape Town in South Africa to shoot its dramatically-charged scenes. The G20 filming locations were reportedly based in this iconic port city from South Africa's southwest coast.

Where was Prime Video's G20 movie filmed? Filming locations explored

G20 on Prime Video was shot in South Africa's Cape Town, which also served as a filming location for Viola Davis' The Woman King. Davis returned to this multi-faceted city as an actor and a producer with the JuVee Productions banner and their head of film production and development, Melanie Clark.

While speaking about this location, Clark told Variety:

“We could shoot certain locations that could read as Europe because we had some European scenes. My personal feeling is that I’m not interested in trying to mimic Europe…when we’re shooting in Africa, but for this film, it’s what we needed.”

Clark also revealed that Cape Town offered them a "combination of locations" that were useful for the film's shooting. Some sources say that the crew began the principal photography in January 2024 and the production wrapped up within the next two months. It was delayed because of the artists' strikes in Hollywood.

Filiming in Cape Town, South Africa

As mentioned above, Cape Town offered a variety of exciting filming locations for the G20 movie. In addition to the place of the global summit, the city delivers the best of all words. Some of its places can also be doubled as other international locations. It offers a tonal contrast between its gorgeous seaside landscapes, natural beauty, and towering cityscapes. They reportedly become key to fulfilling the movie's storytelling requirements of different scopes and sizes.

The local studios also offer a production space and an advanced infrastructure that can advantage different kinds of film productions—much like this action thriller. Some sources revealed St George's Cathedral in Cape Town as one of the locations where the movie was shot.
