Lucasfilm’s Star Wars franchise is gearing up for a seriously epic lineup of new releases, expanding the universe of heroes, villains, and stories that fans have adored for generations. For five decades, the franchise has continued to entertain us with its stellar exploration of science fiction.
The franchise took shape in 1977, when George Lucas first introduced the world to Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Darth Vader, and a galaxy bursting with adventure.
With all the new projects lined up, it honestly feels like the magic is only getting stronger. Here’s a look at everything coming next from the Star Wars universe. Trust me, you don’t wanna miss it.
The Mandalorian & Grogu
The Mandalorian & Grogu, which was revealed at the beginning of 2024, marks the continuation of both the protagonists' adventures and will see Pedro Pascal taking on the role of Mandalorian. However, given that The Mandalorian borrows heavily from Lone Wolf & Cub, this might be a stand-alone adventure or a major plot point in the story that Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni are narrating in the years following Return of the Jedi. Filoni has come on as a producer, and Favreau is directing.
The film is hitting theaters on May 22, 2026.
Simon Kinberg's untitled Star Wars trilogy

Deadline has reported that Simon Kinberg will helm a brand-new trilogy that will be regarded as episodes 10–12 of the franchise. Not much is known about the franchise yet, except that Kinberg will co-produce and write all three films alongside Kathleen Kennedy, the head of Lucasfilm. It's unknown if the films will follow the Skywalker narrative or develop a whole new plot.
According to reports, Rey will appear in some form in Kinberg's trilogy in addition to the impending stand-alone Rey film.
Star Wars: Starfighter

Shawn Levy is changing gears and teaming up with Ryan Gosling for this one, and the casting choice has seen mixed reactions from fans.
Not much is known about the plot of the movie, but Levy and screenwriter Jonathan Tropper have been working on it since 2022. Reports state that the film would be a stand-alone narrative with no connection to the Skywalker Saga.
The movie will take place a few years after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and will include an entirely new cast of unique characters, as Levy told fans at Star Wars Celebration.
Star Wars: Starfighter is looking ahead to a 2027 release date.
James Mangold's Star Wars movie

James Mangold is the newest director to join the Star Wars franchise with a film that will explore the most remote parts of the franchise's past, focusing on the first person to use the Force 25,000 years before the Skywalker Saga. Beau Willimon has been tapped as a co-writer for the project, and Kathleen Kennedy, of course, is producing. The movie is still in development, Kathleen Kennedy told fans at Star Wars Celebration 2025, and further details are expected for now. Most of the film's details have been kept under wraps, apart from the fact that it is set about 25,000 years before the other films.
Dave Filoni's Mando-Verse New Republic Movie

Dave Filoni is setting up a film that takes place after the events of Return of the Jedi. The movie is supposed to connect series like Ahsoka, The Book of Boba Fett, and The Mandalorian. This and a few other teasers from Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023 have led some to speculate that the movie may adapt the Thrawn Trilogy by author Timothy Zahn from the 1990s. The three novels, which began with Heir to the Empire in 1991, presented the Imperial Remnant, Grand Admiral Thrawn, and numerous other concepts that are currently featured on The Mandalorian.
The director told fans during the Star Wars Celebration,
“I grew up in a time of the Original Trilogy. I grew up with the Expanded Universe. We’re drawing on a lot of things [from then] and new things that were created in the meantime to tell this epic.”
Taika Waititi's Star Wars film

Taika Waititi is joining the Star Wars franchise after having successfully worked on two Thor films. Although the film seems to have a pretty slow progress, Kathleen has confirmed that it is still in progress. In addition, Waititi and Krysty Wilson-Cairns are joining Waititi to write the film, although the script is nowhere close to ready as of yet. There has been no further information on the project, including details of its placement in the timeline or what it would be about. According to sources, Waititi is in negotiations to star in the film as well.
Star Wars: Lando Movie

In 2020, Justin Simien was working on a limited series on the flamboyant card player and criminal Lando Calrissian. Although the titular role's cast was unknown, a teaser film that was released during the 2020 Investor Day presentation and featured Lando's flawless Millennium Falcon hinted that it would take place in the past, before he met Han Solo. Kathleen Kennedy announced Donald Glover's involvement in the project, who has previously worked on Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron

Patty Jenkins, the director of Wonder Woman, has been tapped for a Star Wars movie that was first scheduled to open in theaters around Christmas 2023. Jenkins gave everyone an update in March 2024, indicating that the project was still in progress, but it has seen both negative and positive reports ever since, many stating that it has been cancelled. Amidst multiple turbulent updates, it has been reported now that the film is back on track.
Untitled Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy Star Wars Film

At Star Wars Celebration 2023, it was announced that a new film centered on Rey was in progress, with Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy set to direct the project. The events of the movie will take place after The Rise of Skywalker. Kennedy confirmed that the film is in progress, stating that it will focus on Rey's efforts to establish a new Jedi order fifteen years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker. Daisy Ridley will reprise her role as Rey Skywalker, and other actors from the franchise will also reportedly return.
