Kanye West's support for Donald Trump was not constant

While Kanye West and his partner, Bianca Censori, recently supported Trump and helped him with the rallies leading up to the 2024 election, their relationship was not always so cordial.

In 2020, Kanye West elaborated on how he was done with Donald Trump in an exclusive interview with Forbes, stating that he did not consider him a rival to his now-defunct election run but also did not support him:

"It looks like one big mess to me. I don’t like that I caught wind that he hid in the bunker. I’m not saying Trump’s in my way, he may be a part of my way. And Joe Biden? Like come on man, please. You know? Obama’s special. Trump’s special. We say Kanye West is special. America needs special people that lead. Bill Clinton? Special. Joe Biden’s not special."

In 2022, Trump and Kanye West had dinner alongside Nick Fuentes, a right-wing organizer. Trump later released a statement on his dinner with the other two, stating:

"Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, was asking me for advice concerning some of his difficulties, in particular ‘having to do with his business. We also discussed, to a lesser extent, politics, where I told him he should definitely not run for President, ‘any voters you may have should vote for TRUMP.’"

The then-ex-president continued:

"Anyway, we got along great, he expressed no anti-Semitism, & I appreciated all of the nice things he said about me on ‘Tucker Carlson.’ Why wouldn’t I agree to meet? Also, I didn’t know Nick Fuentes.”

Donald Trump later defended West during his interview with far-right video game streamer Adin Ross, who stated:

"He’s really complicated. Let’s say ‘complicated. He is a really nice guy but he can get himself into trouble and he can get some other people. But he’s got a good heart."

The rapper recently has been under controversy for his own anti-semitic and controversial remarks, which resulted in his loss of a deal with Adidas, as well as the refusal of major labels to work with him. This resulted in the rapper releasing his collaborative projects with Ty Dolla $ign, Vultures 1, and Vultures 2, independently under his own Ye label.
