Actor Pedro Pascal is set to grace the big screens with Freaky Tales, a comedic thriller that had its world premiere at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival. Now, a year later, it will be out in the US theaters. According to the latest reports, the Pedro Pascal-led action comedy is scheduled to be released in theatres on April 4, 2025.

Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden have written and directed this exciting film. The filmmaking duo was previously at Sundance in 2015 for Mississippi Grind and in 2006 for Half Nelson. They are also known for directing the Brie Larson-led Captain Marvel (2019).

According to the reports after its premiere, Freaky Tales offers a blend of action-adventure, Blaxploitation, and sci-fi genres. Pedro Pascal leads the cast, including other talented actors such as Jay Ellis, Ben Mendelsohn, Jack Champion, Angus Cloud, and Normani. The film's official IMDb logline reads:

Four interconnected stories set in 1987 Oakland, CA. will tell about the love of music, movies, people, places, and memories beyond our knowable universe.

Let's find out more details about Pedro Pascal's upcoming action comedy film.

When will Freaky Tales come out in 2025? Release details explored

Freaky Tales will be out in theaters on April 4, 2025, in the United States, almost a year after its world premiere at the Sundance International Film Festival in 2024. It was produced by eOne Films and MACRO and will soon be distributed by Lionsgate Films.

On the day of its US release, the film will compete with Jared Hess' A Minecraft Movie, an animated film with the likes of Jason Momoa and Jack Black. It appears to be for a family movie. So, their audience will potentially not overlap with Pedro Pascal's action comedy.

Freaky Tales: Plot details explored: What happens in the upcoming action comedy?

The trailer for Pedro Pascal-led Freaky Tales has not been released yet. However, based on the details shared so far, it follows four connected stories set in Oakland, California, in 1987.

Its synopsis from the 2024 Sundance Film Festival reads:

In 1987 Oakland, a mysterious force guides The Town’s underdogs in four interconnected tales: Teen punks defend their turf against Nazi skinheads, a rap duo battles for hip-hop immortality, a weary henchman gets a shot at redemption, and an NBA All-Star settles the score. Basically another day in the Bay.

After its Sundance premiere, Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden spoke with The Holywood Reporter about their vision for the film. When speaking about Fleck's pursuit of the idea behind this film, Boden said:

“He kept pitching me different ideas for Freaky Tales: The Movie over the past 20 years, and none of them were very good,”

Besides Captain Marvel, the two have mainly worked on more grounded, independent projects. However, this time, they decided to approach things differently. Fleck revealed what they wanted to achieve this time. Here's what he said:

“We can do away with all the nuance that we have in our other movies and just go hard-core on good guys versus bad guys in a popcorn, comic book adventure.”
