Freaky Tales: Lionsgate drops official trailer for Pedro Pascal's upcoming action comedy film

Freaky Tales is an action comedy film starring Pedro Pascal. Written and directed by Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden, the film premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival. Freaky Tales is scheuled to be released theatrically on April 4, 2025, by Lionsgate, who have dropped the official trailer of the film.

Boden and Fleck have also produced the film with Poppy Hanks and Jelani Johnson, under the production banners eOne Films and MACRO.

The official trailer of Freaky Tales was released on February 18, 2025, and it captures the essence of the film. The two-minute and eight-second trailer video opens with the text: 'The year is 1987', establishing the period when the story is set. The trailer reveals the location to be Oakland, California, and Pascal's voiceover as protagonist Clint talks about how an underdog thinks he can defeat the bullies.

Clint is given a job to loot the house of an NBA player during a game night. He doesn't want to continue his life of crime and this would be his last job. However, the situation is much more complicated. The trailer then follows a series of interesting moments from the film. It ends with a montage of shots that are synched through sound.

Freaky Tales takes place in 1987 in Oakland, California, and it showcases four interconnected stories that happen around a real-life event. Clint is assigned to rob the house of a popular basketball player. His house would be empty on a game night and they have to steal some artifacts from his house. But Clint is apprehensive about continuing with a life of crime.

According to IMDb, the official synopsis of the film reads:

Four interconnected stories set in 1987 Oakland, CA. will tell about the love of music, movies, people, places and memories beyond our knowable universe.

Freaky Tales stars Pedro Pascal as Clint while Jay Ellis portrays the real-life basketball player Sleepy Floyd. Other cast members of the film are as follows:

In an interview with Deadline, Pedro Pascal spoke about the film, addding that its plot is about underdogs. Pascal said:

“It’s the story about the underdogs that’s defending the underdog and going up against hate to simplify it, and it feels good to fulfill that revenge fantasy a bunch against a bunch of shitheads, and haters and actual Nazis’. F*ck nazis!”

Co-director Ryan Fleck said:

“This is a movie that’s been floating around in my imagination since I was a young child, growing up in the bay area in Oakland, specifically, I’m a big fan of the sports scene there, the “Sleepy” Floyd game was legendary for me, when he broke the record for most points in a playoff quarter, a record that stills stands to this day."

Freaky Tales releases theatrically on April 4, 2025.
