Disney is back with another much-awaited sequel this year, and this one promises to be freakier. Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis starrer Freaky Friday is all set to get its sequel, Freakier Friday, this year, and the details are just as exciting.

Released in 2003, the original film revolved around the mother-daughter duo swapping bodies as they explored each other's lives and formed a deeper bond after the swap. Both the actors have been teasing the sequel for quite some time and revealed last year that the project is, in fact, happening. Here's everything you need to know about Freakier Friday.

When Will Freakier Friday Be Released?

Freakier Friday production was completed in August 2024 and the movie is slated to release on August 8, 2025. The announcement was shared on Instagram, which featured an image of Lohan and Curtis recreating one of the iconic stills of the film in October 2024.

Freakier Friday Plot Speculations

As of now, details of the sequel have not yet been revealed, but speculations surrounding the plot have surfaced, leading fans to anticipate a sequel that will most likely live up to its predecessor's success.

Talking to Disney's D23 in August 2024, Lohan credited fans to be the reason behind them making the film. She said:

“It’s more fun, it’s more emotional, and it’s all for you guys. Seriously, the only reason we are back here doing this because of your love. That is why."

Furthermore, the official logline of Freakier Friday reads:

“A sequel to the beloved 2003 film with a multigenerational twist, the film picks up years after Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan) endured an identity crisis. Anna now has a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. As they navigate the myriad challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might indeed strike twice."

Not just this. Lohan also confirmed that the band Pink Slip is returning for the film in November 2024, and the actress also revealed she was taking guitar lessons for the film in June 2024.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly in August 2024, Curtis said about Lohan's musical return in the film:

“I’m telling you right now, this one played a song last night at the Wiltern, and it is in my ear like one of those Star Trek earworms. I’m telling you, it’s going to be a monster hit. I’m not going to tell you what it’s called because we’re in the middle of making it, but there are some old favorites played in this movie.”

Who Will Be In The Cast Of Freakier Friday?

Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis will be reprising their roles as Anna and Tess Coleman. Apart from them, Chad Michael Murray has confirmed his return as Jake.

Not just Jake! Christina Vidal Mitchell will be returning as Maddie, Haley Hudson is returning as Peg, Lucille Soong is returning as Pei-Pei's mom, Stephen Tobolowsky as Mr. Bates, and Rosalind Chao as Pei-Pei.

Apart from that, sources have confirmed that Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, Manny Jacinto, and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan will be joining the cast of Freakier Friday too.
