Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt is coming for his adventure (likely to be) last adventure in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning and the trailer shows us some familiar faces returning in the film already. Other than Cruise, Simon Pegg and Ving Rhames are returning as his comrades in arms, Benji Dunn and Luther Stickell, respectively, from last film.
But fans are hoping to see Jeremy Renner's William Brandt return to the franchise. He appeared in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, and it's a possibility after a major revelation about the film was recently made in the The Final Reckoning trailer.
The film is scheduled for a global release on May 23, 2025, but not before a screening at the Cannes Film Festival on May 14, 2025. Christopher McQuarrie is directing, which will be his fourth film in the franchise, the others being Rogue Nation (2015), Fallout (2018), and Dead Reckoning Part One (2023).
Fans need his final appearance in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning
Fans sure want Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning to be some kind of Avengers: Endgame-like goodbye to heroes that appeared in the Infinity Saga, as it's clear from the discussions that are happening around the upcoming Tom Cruise film. Jeremy Renner appears to be their favorite.
However, they also know that it's a long shot, but they sure hope for it. This one fan called Josh Palfreyman writes in his post with a fingers crossed emoji that,
"I know it’s a long shot but I’d love Jeremy Renner to make an appearance in the last Mission Impossible movie."
A fan brought up an important detail, which lifts those hopes for us. NekidSnek writes,
"He said in an interview not too long ago that he filmed “three” Mission Impossible movies so here’s to hoping he didn’t just misspeak and actually leaked something."
Though we must note that he refused to act in the third film, as the creators wanted to kill his character. He wasn't in the mood to let it happen so he dropped out of the ship.
Another one called Violent Revolution jogs down his memory to the time when it was the time to jump on that moving fan. We are telling you, he is good at doing amazing squats, as Mark Ruffalo notes. The user says,
"His scene when he needs to jump is hilarious"
User DxTCinema didn't say much but was straight to the point, saying,
"BRING HIM BACK"
Even though he is in for a cameo, one Mr. Hypa is in. The user says,
"Deadpool and Wolverine type of cameos I’m here for it."
There's no way to tell if he is returning, but if Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning has a hidden cameo, he should be in it.
What's William Brandt's role in the franchise again?
Brandt was revealed to be protecting Julia (Michelle Monaghan), Ethan's wife, whom he failed to protect as she died, according to him. But Ethan clears it out that it was all a setup and she is very alive and makes a cameo at the end of Ghost Protocol.
We can't say what he will be doing in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, but if this is the final film, they can bring him to say goodbye. But then again, he doesn't want to.
