The latest updates on Hurricane Milton have Florida residents concerned about the dangerous situation. Meanwhile, purported pictures of Disney World flooded by the storm in Florida are going viral on the internet.

These pictures came to light soon after Hurricane Milton hit Siesta Key, Florida, on Wednesday. The hurricane resulted in the closure of Disney World's theme parks on the same day. As of October 10, 2024, the theme park remains closed, as shared on its official website.

The storm has affected Florida, mainly the Gulf Coast, and continues to pose significant threats. Hurricane Milton reached Category 3 but was later downgraded after the windspeeds decreased. However, the National Hurricane Center described it as "extremely dangerous" on Tuesday.

Following the storm, viral pictures showing Disney World flooded have reached almost every social media platform. Those who believe the pictures note that they are fake and generated through artificial intelligence (AI).

The theme park's official website or any reputable news outlets haven't confirmed or shared these pictures. Disney World was last closed in September 2022 due to Hurricane Ian. Now, after two years, the theme parks are again closed for some time in Florida, as the storm was located approximately 520 miles west-southwest of Tampa and was expected to make landfall on Wednesday.

Who distributed the AI-generated images of Disney World underwater amid Hurricane Milton?

As previously mentioned, the viral pictures have been confirmed to be AI-generated, as there's no report suggesting such huge damage to the theme park. The storm did cause significant damage to places including Tampa, Sarasota, and St. Petersburg and mild effects in Orlando, but it didn't damage the theme park as of now.

Following the viral pictures, many would wonder from where they originated. According to Metro.co.uk, the AI-generated images of the theme park underwater are distributed by Russia. The country's RIA agency reportedly shared the pictures first on Telegram, followed by social media users reposting them and discussing the storm's effect.

When will Disney World reopen after Hurricane Milton hit Florida, USA?

The theme park's website mentioned being closed on Thursday but will consider limited offerings for Disney Springs. However, as of October 10, 2024, the theme park located in Orlando remained closed with the cancellation of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and parking ragares.

For those worried about the Halloween Party, you will receive refunds of the tickets purchased for the event. Being one of the most famous and beloved theme parks, Disney World has its own rules for making refunds or adjustments during hurricanes.

While the Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party has been canceled, Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground and Treehouse Villas at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa are expected to reopen on Sunday, October 13, 2024. The theme park will also make refunds for the prepaid dining experiences, and the amount will be reflected in accounts in 7 to 10 business days, as shared on its Instagram story.

Currently, the cancelation policy remains on hold, and a few dining options are available for guests in Disney resorts. Additionally, your hotel might offer exciting Walt Disney World Resort activities, including surprise characters in the lobby, free arcade play for fun and engagement from 4 p.m. ET, and even Disney films in your rooms.
