In a latest interview at NPR Podcasts' Wild Card with Rachel Martin, actor Elizabeth Olsen has become candid about her joining the MCU. She expressed how she does not want to do roles similar to what she portrayed in the Marvel films.

Elizabeth Olsen is incredibly well-known for her portrayal of Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch in the MCU films. Her last appearance in the franchise has been in 2022, in Doctor Strange in the Multitude of Madness.

However, in the interview, Olsen has opened up about her thoughts about her further association with MCU, as she says:

"I have spent so many years doing Marvel that I feel like all the other jobs I have to do have to really reflect my personal taste because as much as I love being a part of this world — and I'm proud of what I've been able to do with the character — it's not really the art that I consume, which I have been very, I think, honest about."

Let us find out what more Elizabeth Olsen talked about regarding joining the MCU.

In the podcast Wild Card with Rachel Martin, Olsen opens up about her association with Marvel, and the fact that she does not wish to continue appearing in roles similar to that of Wanda Maximoff.

In the interview, the host, Rachel Martin asked a few questions to Elizabeth Olsen by drawing a set of cards. Upon drawing one card, Martin asked Olsen: "What is something you still feel you need to prove to the people you meet?"

To that, Elizabeth Olsen elucidates on the importance of her creative taste. That is when, the conversation about her association with MCU gradually begins. She reflects on her past career choices as she mentions:

"I think I haven't always successfully made choices in my work that are aligned with my personal taste, and that is something I feel like I'm still trying to prove when I meet people especially if it's a work type meeting. I feel like I have to be very clear about own homework basically, and be able to express my personal taste in films, literature. So I still think I have that to prove."

To which, Rachel Martin makes the direct MCU reference by asking if she really wants to become a superhero or not. To which Olsen said, she did want to become one. She further continues in her statement where she opens up about her beginnings with MCU and what motivated her to join them.

She has been all praises about the MCU movies, especially the Iron Man, as she says:

"When I started Marvel, I thought the Iron Man movies were so so great. I thought they were such great, Greek type scale stories that reflected politics, culture in a really lovely way. And so I felt really proud to jump into it."

But at the same time, Elizabeth Olsen shed light on the critique MCU movies have received over the years as well, as she further mentions:

"Then within the last 10 years, it's taken on this narrative of like, it's like a hot take whether an actor says they would never do a Marvel movie or not, or filmmakers think its ruining theatres."

Elizabeth Olsen has appeared in the Marvel franchise as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch in films and series, including:

  • Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)
  • Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)
  • Captain America: Civil War (2016)
