Eden is a 2024 American survival thriller film. The film's director Ron Howard and writer Noah Pink created the story together. Inspired by the true story of European settlers who traveled to Floreana Island in the Galapagos Islands, the movie had its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 7, 2024.
What is Eden about?
Eden tells the story of Dr. Friedrich Ritter and his wife, Dora Strauch, who leave Germany in 1929. They wish to escape the modern, middle-class way of life, which they believe is ruining humanity. So, they move to Floreana Island to start a new life.
Friedrich wants to write his ideas down in a manifesto, while Dora hopes to heal her multiple sclerosis through meditation. But their plan for a quiet life doesn’t last long.
Their solitude is initially interrupted by Margaret and Heinz Wittmer, a couple who also come to settle on the island. Things get more complicated when Eloise Bosquet de Wagner Wehrhorn, a self-declared baroness, arrives with two lovers, a servant from Ecuador, and plans to build a luxury hotel.
The tough environment bad weather, wild animals, and no basic amenities make life hard for everyone. But the biggest test comes when they have to live together, facing issues like theft, lies, and even darker hurdles.

Eden premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 7, 2024. Earlier in May 2024, AGC Studios sold the film’s distribution rights to Amazon Prime Video for several international markets at the Marche du Film event.
