When Redmayne was younger, he attended the Jackie Palmer Stage School, where he discovered his love for singing and performing. Before studying art history at Trinity College in Cambridge, he attended Eaton House, Colet Court, and Eton College. In 1998, Redmayne appeared on screen for the first time in an episode of the children's show "Animal Ark."

In 2006, Redmayne starred in his first two feature films: "The Good Shepherd" and "Like Minds." He performed with Julianne Moore in the drama "Savage Grace" the next year, and he played Anthony Babington in the biographical period drama "Elizabeth: The Golden Age." First, he played the role of Balem Abrasax in the science-fiction movie "Jupiter Ascending," which was directed by the Wachowski twins. For the biographical movie "The Danish Girl," he reunited with director Tom Hooper and played transgender pioneer Lili Elbe.
