Tyler Perry's soap opera-like film, Duplicity, which is making rounds on the internet, for not being good, of course, is a below-average one but above many on streaming charts. While Picture This is currently at the number 1 spot on Amazon Prime, the Tyler Perry movie is at the second.
It was almost entirely shot in Atlanta, Georgia; however, there are no details on other filming locations, if any were involved. Though there's this scene where we see a building that looks like Atlanta City Hall, none of the movie's filming details mention it.
Both IMDb and Amazon Prime have given the film 4.6/10 ratings at the time of writing and Rotten Tomatoes doesn't have enough reviews to give it a rating. Some other films with better ratings that fans may want to see include John Wick: Chapter 4 and Never Let Go.
Tyler Perry's Duplicity used his Atlanta-based studio
His Atlanta-based Tyler Perry Studios reportedly served as a major production facility for Duplicity but we don't have any other details regarding it. The studio was originally founded in 2006 and is considered among the largest ones in the nation.
While Duplicity was the latest in the line, several other projects have been shot in there, most famously his Mabel "Madea" Simmons films, which are based on the plays he created. This includes Madea's Family Reunion (2006), Madea Goes to Jail (2009), Madea's Big Happy Family (2011), and more.
Another project called The Six Triple Eight (2024), which became a streaming hit on Netflix recently, was produced by Tyler Perry Studios only.
Other than that, a range of television series were associated in partial or entire capacity. His American sitcom House of Payne is one popular example here, as he brought his character of Madea back into it.
However, the most popular project associated with it to date includes Marvel Studios's Hawkeye. Although Tyler Perry Studios was only a minor part of the show's filming. The Jeremy Renner and Hailee Steinfeld series is currently sitting fresh with a 92% approval rating.
A little bit about Duplicity
Duplicity is about a shooting that happens in a neighborhood and now the victim's best friend needs to find out what happened. Going by it's plot (via IMDb),
"High-powered attorney Marley faces her most personal case yet when she is tasked with uncovering the truth behind the shooting of her best friend Fela's husband. With the help of her boyfriend - a former cop turned private investigator - Marley's search for what really happened leads her down a treacherous maze of deception and betrayal."
It stars Kat Graham, Tyler Lepley, RonReaco Lee, and more in the film. Though we mentioned that Rotten Tomatoes doesn't have enough reviews for it to give us a score, there are 6 reviews on the page at the moment with the highest rating of 2.5/5 by LeisureByte.
Ready Steady Cut's Jonathan Wilson says,
"The most charitable thing I’m willing to say about Tyler Perry’s Duplicity is that it probably won’t end up being the worst movie of the year."
We don't know if that's true but all we can say is that Tyler Perry again made it to the top layer of streaming charts despite how bad this movie turned out.
