Drop: Release date, plot, cast and more about Christopher Landon's upcoming mystery thriller film

Horror icon, Christopher Landon, will soon be back on the big screen with his new mystery thriller film, Drop. Landon is working alongside Michael Bay and Jason Blum from Blumhouse Productions for his latest summer release.

The story revolves around a widowed woman, Violet, who goes on a date after a long time. However, as the plot unravels, she finds herself trapped in an almost irreversible situation.

Drop will feature an ensemble cast comprising Meghann Fahy and Brandon Sklenar. Universal Pictures will theatrically release the mystery thriller in April 2025. The official synopsis of Drop reads:

"First dates are nerve-wracking enough. Going on a first date while an unnamed, unseen troll pings you personal memes that escalate from annoying to homicidal? Blood-chilling."

When will Drop be released?

Drop is set for a theatrical premiere in the United States on April 11, 2025. The movie will have its early screening at the South by Southwest Film & TV Festival, a month before on March 9. Blumhouse Productions and Platinum Dunes are producing the film with Michael Bay (whose notable work includes the Transformers franchise) overseeing the project. Bradley Fuler and Cameron Fuller are also on the production team alongside Bay.

What do we know about the plot of Drop?

Drop centers on a windowed woman, Violet, who goes on a date to a fancy restaurant after a long hiatus. Her date, a man named Henry, soon charms her with his appearance and conversational skills.

However, things go sideways when Violet starts receiving strange notifications on her cell phone. What initially seems like pranks soon turns out to be something more serious, as an unidentified user starts controlling Violet through anonymous 'drops' on her device.

She further receives instructions on what to do else her loved ones' lives are in danger, including her little son. The plot reaches its climax when Violet gets an ultimate 'drop' where she is ordered to kill her date, Henry.

Who is in the cast of Drop?

Emmy-nominated actress, Meghann Fahy, will lead the cast of Drop in the role of Violet. She will be joined by co-star, Brandon Tyler Sklenar, who is known for his work in Taylor Sheridan's Western drama, 1923. Sklenar will play the role of Violet's date, a guy named Henry.

Drop helmer, Christopher Landon, has gained quite some popularity over the years in the movie industry owing to his horror streak, and the Paranormal Activity franchise being one of them. He has also worked alongside Daniel John Caruso Jr. on the 2007 neo-noir crime thriller, Disturbia.
