Chris Sanders' The Wild Robot is a science fiction action drama film based on Peter Brown's novel of the same name. The latest DreamWorks production had its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Academy Award-winning actress Lupita Nyong'o has voiced the character Roz, a solution-oriented robot who gets stuck on a deserted island and looks for ways to survive the queer environment. She eventually adopts an orphaned gosling and struggles with the endeavors of motherhood.

Shortly after its release, the sci-fi movie garnered quite some attention from the audience owing to its dramatic build-up and elements of animated action.

Moreover, The Wild Robot has an emotional post-credits scene where we see a long feud coming to an end as two characters Fink, a fox, and Paddler, a beaver finally unite as they plant a sapling together before walking away into a sunset.

What happens in the post-credits scene of The Wild Robot?

The post-credits scene of The Wild Robot portrays a lighthearted scene where we see Fink the fox hanging out with Paddler the beave on the island. The two of them are seen earthing a sapling after the events of the movie.

As the two recede towards a setting sun, a squirrel appears at the scene while mocking the size of the plant. It is soon after hit by a rock. Director Sanders has reportedly explained the sequence and said in a statement:

"I really wanted to do that because there’s a particular thing that happens in the film, where a tree meets its demise, and it’s an amazing tree.It was a critical thing in the story to get the story to work and even though it’s an animated tree that was just painted, it still felt bad to me that it fell down, so I thought it would be really sweet if at the end of the movie, we saw this little sapling… being planted."

The scene is definitely a sweet beat but it also hits a comedic button. We see Fink and Paddler regaining their bond after things go down on the island. Moreover, they may have changed a bit over time but their sardonic versions still exist within. The sequence also pays off two running gags earlier in the movie.

The major purpose of the scene is to maintain the emotional drive while introducing a comic angle. Earlier in the movie, we see Fink, played by Pedro Pascal, telling Roz that comedy is meant to put someone through pain. The squirrel, shown in the post-credits scene, has always been trouble for Roz who later saves it.

Being a target because of the continuous guffawing at others, it finally shuts up after being pelted by a rock. The lighthearted comic note lingers with the post-credits scene while paying off the running gags.
