Scream VI opened on March 10, 2023, as a sequel to the 2022 film, Scream. Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin directed the film written by Guy Busick and James Vanderbilt. Scream VI was a critical and commercial success.
Gale Weathers (played by Courteney Cox) is an important character of the Scream franchise, and appears in Scream VI, too. She has survived the serial killing attacks of Ghostface across six films of the slasher franchise.
There is, however, curiosity among viewers regarding her survival in Sceam VI. So, let us look at what happened to Gale in the last-released film of the franchise.
Gale Weathers' fate in Scream VI explored
Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) is one of the few characters from the original films to still appear in the franchise. In Scream VI, she continues to write her books about the murders that she has survived. These books have been adapted into a series of slasher films called Stab. In Scream VI, Ghostface ends up stabbing Gale several times in her apartment in New York City. However, Tara and Sam arrive in time, and she is taken to the hospital.
Journalist Gale does not die despite severe wounds and this information is revealed towards the end of Scream VI. This denotes that she will continue to lend a helping hand to the leading characters in future. In Scream VI, Gale gets limited screen time and she is not seen after the stabbing.
However, we can expect Gale to return in Scream 7, and possibly write another book on her ordeal.
Gale has a message for Sidney Prescott
When Gale is being taken to the hospital by paramedics in Scream VI, she whispers something in Sam's ear. "He didn’t get me. Tell Sidney he never got me," she says. The line signifies she is not willing to give up and will continue to fight the killer, Ghostface.
Even if she dies by any chance, Gale does not want Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) to think that the killer got her. Fans can expect a reunion between Gale and Sidney in Scream 7. The two characters were in the first Scream film that released in 1996.
Scream 7 will mark the return of several characters from the original film, including Campbell, Cox, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Matthew Lillard, Mason Gooding, and Roger L. Jackson. It is directed by Kevin Williamson, who wrote the first Scream. James Vanderbilt, William Sherak, and Paul Neinstein are the producers. It is scheduled for release on February 27, 2026, by Paramount Pictures.
The franchise started with the 1996 film Scream, which Wes Craven directed. It satirized the usual horror tropes and emerged a critical and commercial hit on release. Scream also revived popular interest in horror. The film was followed by several sequels directed by Craven. After the director's death in 2015, several others have taken over the directorial responsibility in subsequent films.
After the filming of the upcoming Scream 7 commenced, Williamson took to Instagram to share his thoughts on the film. Sharing a picture of the clapboard, he wrote:
“I’m not supposed to post about Scream and I hope @spyglassmediagr and @paramountpics will forgive me but when you have one of the best days of your life it’s really hard to keep it to yourself. What an extraordinary day I had working with an amazing and talented cast and crew. They brought their ‘A’ game and had my back every step of the way.”
