Prime Video’s latest zombie horror film, Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End, is directed by Carles Torrens and follows Manel (Francisco Ortiz) and his grumpy cat Lúculo as they try to survive the unexpected zombie outbreak happening in Spain because of the TSJ virus.
The Spanish film also stars José María Yazpik, Berta Vázquez, Iria del Río, and Yuri Mykhaylychenko among others.

Before the outbreak of the zombie apocalypse, Manel had decided to isolate himself from the world after his wife’s death. He was living alone with his cat and therefore fans have been wondering if his cat made it.
Well, fortunately, Lúculo and Manel are both alive at the end of the Spanish film. Despite there remaining unanswered questions by the ending of Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End, there is no confusion about Lúculo’s living status.

How does the cat Lúculo survive in Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End?
In Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End, Malen had kind of given up on his life after his wife died. However, when the TSJ virus broke out, Malen’s love for Lúculo, his cat, made him try to go to the Canary Islands, as his sister Balen informed him that they were given access to a safe island for refuge there.
However, not everything goes as planned as things turn haywire on their way to the island. Firstly, Malen’s motorboat stops midway on his way to the Canary Islands.
Though he is rescued by Ushakov and his men from the zombies, Malen soon learns that Ushakov is actually a dictator who is only helping the survivors now so that he can rule over them once this whole apocalypse has ended.
Soon enough, with the help of Viktor Pritchenko, a Ukrainian gang member, Manel, Lúculo, and Viktor himself escape from Ushakov’s ship. However, upon reaching the hospital, they find out that the chopper that was supposed to carry them from there was nowhere to be found.
Eventually however, Manel and some other survivors manage to find a helicopter. After that, Manel, Lúculo, and others board that helicopter to reach the Canary Islands.

Do Manel and Lúculo make it safely to the Canary Islands?
Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End ends with a cliffhanger and though it is certain that Manel and Lúculo are alive by the time the film ends, their fate in the Canary Islands or if they reached there successfully have not been explored.
Given that Manel receives a phone call from her sister, Belen at the end of movie, begging him not to travel to the island, suggests that something must have gone wrong there and it is no longer the safe space that Belen had earlier claimed it to be.
However, the ending does not state that Belen is dead. Therefore, the possibility of Manel and Lúculo reaching the island and helping Belen and other people there cannot be discarded.
On the other hand, the people already on the island might be killed by the zombies by the time this group reaches there. Given the fact that the film's ending is rather open ended, there can be various conclusions that can be drawn.
However, whether these questions are answered in a sequel or not, for now, fans can rejoice that Manel’s cat Lúculo is safe and sound and despite various ups and downs, Manel has ensured he carries Lúculo wherever he goes.
