Deadpool & Wolverine continues to dominate the global box office with an earning of $1.08 billion, as per Walt Disney Company’s publishing website. The movie starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, is set in the multiverse and packs both action and comedy.
Likewise, MCU fanatics have also spotted an array of Easter Eggs in the movie. A forum on Reddit unraveled quite a few of these inklings across the MCU multiverse. To begin with, references to Thor: Ragnarok were made via Hulk’s (Dr. Bruce Banner played by Mark Ruffalo) bed - the same one Deadpool awakens in a still from the film.
Similarly, the wallpaper within the room was from Mt. Wundagore from Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. The list of easter eggs could go on and on! However, there was one big connection from outside the MCU that several missed, yet one hawk-eyed fan uncovered.
Deadpool & Wolverine's connection to Les Misrables explained
Yup, you read that right, there is an inkling between Deadpool & Wolverine and Les Miserables! This wasn’t exactly in the open - an incredibly difficult easter egg to spot since MCU is the king of subtlety. Kudos to an MCU fan from X, formerly Twitter, WolverSteve, who discovered the connection in the first place!
WolverSteve shared a collage of Wolverine’s adamantium skull and a doodle from 2018 and connected the dots. Apparently, upon closer inspection, the number “24601” in both the roof of the skull and in the background of the doodle is a part of Les Miserables.
How? It’s from Jackman’s movie; the prisoner number Jackman’s character ‘Jean Valjean was assigned - mindblowing, isn't it? What makes it even more mind-bending is the number from the doodle was from Deadpool 2.
Could they have been planning an epic amalgamation since then? Well, the good news is, it happened and the MCU couldn’t be happier about it.Speaking of, several fans commended the user for attention to detail and practically showered him with positive affirmations about the same.
This is no conspiracy theory and it is 100% legit because even the director of Deadpool & Wolverine Shawn Levy confirmed the same in response to the fan’s observation on his handle. Levy exclaimed,
“We’ve been wondering, who would notice that first!”
This is quite impressive, especially since it’s been nearly two months since the release of Deadpool & Wolverine. However, this isn’t the only way the film pays homage to Jackman’s other roles.
During Deadpool and Wolverine’s first fights, the song You’re the One that I Want from Jackman’s movie The Greatest Showman is heard playing in the background.
Final Thoughts
MCU has been pulling out all the stops for easter eggs and references in their movies and television franchises. Deadpool & Wolverine had a plethora of easter eggs from beloved comic references, including the anticipated duel between Hulk and Wolverine.
Director Shawn Levy and the rest of the team of writers, producers, and co-producers certainly outdid themselves with the easter eggs. Who knows, perhaps this movie contains easter eggs for future Deadpool and Wolverine projects?
