DC heads drop exciting updates on DCU's future movies and here's what we know so far

James Gunn's DC Universe (DCU) is falling behind Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) by a portal-like scene, and now DC Studios is thinking about catching up. In 2019, we got to see the biggest superheroes assembly after the Avengers trio, Captain America (Chris Evans), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), and Thor (Chris Hemsworth), had lost hopes against the mad titan Thanos (Josh Brolin).

Though we don't know how DC Studios plans to pull something like that, we do know they are building up towards something like that, as James Gunn confirmed. That needs some powerful buildup, and it appears we are getting one after the DC chiefs, Gunn and Peter Safran, shared some updates recently.

While this will be the first mega assembly of DC superheroes, Marvel is already moving towards its second one, which we are likely to see in Avengers: Secret Wars. All we can say is that this is going to be massive.

How are James Gunn's DCU plans going after two years?

James Gunn and Peter Safran were at a press event, and so was The Hollywood Reporter, which released a detailed story covering the updates the DC Studios shared. That begins with Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow halfway through production and Lanterns entering the production.

Then there's Clayface, a body horror film akin to The Substance that finally found its director. Period war film Sgt. Rock does have a director but is still struggling to get the lead face. Peacemaker won't have any of the issues, given it was pulled from DCEU to DCU; call it the Deadpool of DC. The same is the case with Waller, which Safran says "has been a bumpy road" for them.

Talking of a bumpy road, The Authority is among the projects going through some issues. So, Gunn says they aren't prioritizing it now. Swamp Thing's been cut off from the priority list, too. Fans will be disappointed to know that Robert Pattinson's Batman may not appear in Brave and the Bold, a film that will focus on Bruce Wayne's son Damian.

Yes, it's been a rocky road, but Gunn and Safran are treading carefully to meet their desired vision of an Avengers: Endgame-like portals scene.

An Avengers-style climax is likely to be a part of DCU's Chapter Two

Even though James Gunn and Peter Safran have pulled a few projects from DCEU, it is far from obvious that this is only the beginning of their universe. That said, we are likely to see an Avengers: Endgame-style culmination only in DCU's Chapter Two.

They are just building up, kick-starting with Superman, which is likely to get its second trailer soon, according to Screen Rant. We already know that he won't be flying solo, unlike most of the past iterations of the character, but this team-up won't be enough for what James Gunn has in mind.

Justice League remains the Avengers equivalent for DC, but we don't know if Gunn is aiming for this team-up. Though Nathan Fillion's Guy Gardner was a part of Justice League International in the comics. So, we can assume the events in Chapter One may lead towards a mega DC assembly.

As far as 'how they are going to pull it off in the DCU' is concerned, Gunn knows the trick of the trade, given he served as an executive producer of Avengers: Endgame.
