Don Cheadle will reportedly return to the big screen as John Wick creator Derek Kolstad is in talks of writing the screenplay for the upcoming action thriller film Canyon. Oscar-nominated star, Cheadle, will play the role of a part-time jazz artist and a full-time killer who finds himself stuck between two crime families' feud and gets to be the unlikely protector of a young singer.
As per Deadline, Colin Tilley will direct the movie that covers the events of one heated night. Alcon Entertainment will produce Canyon alongside Andrew Kosove, Broderick Johnson, Davis Entertainment's Jon Davis, and Jeremy Stein. Karyn Smith-Forge under This Radicle Act will also join the team.
Do we have a release date for Canyon?
Alcon Entertainment has not yet opened up about the dates for the theatrical release of Canyon. But the production company has already confirmed that the movie is in the works as star Don Cheadle joins the cast. As per reports, Canyon will probably go into production once creator Colstad wraps up his work on the upcoming action thriller sequel Nobody 2.
What do we know about the story of Canyon?
Canyon follows the story of a part-time jazz musician who also is a full-time assassin (played by lead star Cheadle). He finds himself stuck in the tumult of a turf war raging between two families that have criminal histories.
While doing so, he unknowingly gets dragged into a situation where he has to do his bit as the protector and guardian of a young artist. There is no further information on how things unravel beyond this point as the plot is still being kept under wraps.
Who is in the cast and crew of Canyon?
Oscar-nominated and Emmy Award-winning actor Don Cheadle will play the titular character of a jazz musician/assassin in Canyon. Cheadle is known for playing the part of War Machine in the Iron Man movies.
He has also been a major part of The Ocean's franchise from 2001-2007. He got an Academy Award nomination for playing Paul Rusesabagina in Hotel Rwanda, a historical drama piece. Moreover, Cheadle has also received multiple Golden Globe, BAFTA, and Primetime Emmy Awards over the years.
However, the other cast members have not been confirmed yet. But we have an ensemble crew as John Wick creator Derek Colstad joins the production team to write the screenplay alongside director Colin Tilley.
Tilley is a well-known Grammy-nominated music video director. He has been associated with famous artists like Justin Timberlake, Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj, 50 Cent, Lil Wayne, Enrique Iglesias, Zendaya, and Kendrick Lamar.
Colstad is known for naming his movies by the titular characters' names, as we saw in John Wick where the protagonist (Keanu Reeves) set out to avenge his beloved dog's death. In Canyon also, we will supposedly see the same convention being followed.
