Avengers: Doomsday will explore the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). In the sixth phase, there will be several projects, and one of them is Doomsday. Reportedly, fans are excited as Marvel will be dialing everything to their maximum to come up with a film that will draw everyone to the theatres.
Recently update regarding Avengers: Doomsday is that the film will reportedly feature some Watchers. They have been mentioned in the previous films in the MCU but have not been featured in the Avengers series. If the speculation is true, viewers can expect some conflict between the Watchers and the superheroes.
Avengers: Doomsday might feature Watchers
A January 2025 publication by Comic Book Movie has revealed, attributing it to Daniel Richtman, that Avengers: Doomsday will feature several Watchers. These creatures are described as someone who is from the fifth dimension. They are appointed to take a look at the multiverse and the events that are happening in it.
Their names have been taken in some Marvel films and shows like What If? as well as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 among others. Apart from Utahu, the watchers have been eyeing the entire multiverse. Their involvement in Avengers: Doomsday will take the story deeper into the comic book lore.
The Watchers have been also described as the observer of the vast cosmic world. They know a lot about the universe and are mere spectators of all the events that unfold. Surprisingly, the Watchers never interfere in any event to try and alter it.
Will Doom face the Watchers in Avengers: Doomsday?
There are possibilities that Avengers: Doomsday might feature a face-off between the Watchers and Doctor Doom (played by Robert Downey Jr.) RDJ had played Tony Stark in the earlier phase of MCU and his character died in Avengers: Endgame.
But he came back and the news was announced at the 2024 Comic Con. The film is directed by the Russo brothers while Stephen McFeely is the writer. Joe Russo opened up about the film and stated that they have a story to tell.
He said,
"We're all very close. We had been working on another project before Marvel approached all of us - so we're working on another project with Robert - and there was a story that evolved through conversations that we got very excited about. Because it's always got to be the story."
The director further explained,
“Why would we come back if we didn't feel like we had a story that had that possibility of being on an equal footing with Infinity War and Endgame unless there's a kernel there for an idea that's really explosive?"
While it's unclear how the storyline will pan out, viewers can expect something interesting in Avengers: Doomsday. The film is slated to release theatrically in May 2026. This will be followed by Avengers: Secret Wars which will be out on May 2027. Both these films will be a part of Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase Six.
Expectations among viewers are quite high. Post Avengers: Endgame, Marvel has seen a dip in viewers' interest in their content with many films and shows failing and going without notice. But with all the updates and revelations, we can expect Avengers: Doomsday to deliver.
