Disney's latest animated musical adventure film Moana 2 has drawn a lot of attention from audiences after the first movie's success in 2016. Since these comic characters and their stories always attract kids, parents are now concerned about whether their children can watch Moana 2, and whether it is suitable for all ages.
In the 2024 sequel, the titular Disney character Moana reunites with her gang and her demigod friend Maui and embarks on an adventure to restore the broken island of Motufetu located in the far stretches of Oceania. Owing to the dangers associated with the quests, some heroes face risks while a few of the characters almost even die.
Because of this Moana 2 has received the PG (Parental Guidance Suggested) rating by MPAA, just like its first part. While Moana (2016) was rated PG because of its use of thematic elements and scary imagery, the sequel has received a PG rating for its dangerous action scenes. More about Moana 2 and whether it is suitable for kids is explored below:
Is Moana 2 too intense for kids to watch?
Moana 2 has certain sequences which makes it a little too intense for kids to watch, especially in the third act. However, the overall tone of the film is light which makes it suitable for families to sit together and enjoy.
The story comprises sweet morals and unlike the ones we see in the Realm of the Monsters in Moana (2016), there are not many unsettling elements in Moana 2. The classic Disney animation style has been incorporated in the movie which helps in portraying even the darkest, dangerous scenes with an undertone of magical mystery and wonder.
Moreover, the movie does not contain any age-inappropriate content. The action portrayed in the movie also only helps develop the plot and does not depict any unnecessary violence.
All of these factors make it a suitable family movie where children will get to witness thrilling adventures. Though Moana 2's use of action-packed adventures has earned it a PG rating, the animated and magical way of storytelling makes it suitable for young audiences.
