Renee Zellweger's Bridget was again seen going to and fro between a couple of men (actually, one was a manboy) in Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy as she finds herself living a life without her husband Mark Darcy (Colin Firth), who died in Sudan while on a humanitarian mission.
The fourth movie in the Bridget Jones series came after a decade, and it hasn't lost the charm, as we can tell by how the fans reacted to it. Anyway, after dealing with a chickened-out boy, she got what she deserved. The ending certainly was beautiful, but it's not all.
From Hampstead to Tower Bridge in London, that film features some beautiful locations in there. Michael Morris, who directed the movie, recently took some time out to sit with Time Out to share a thing or two about filming locations. He wanted the film to be a "real-life romcom," and the choice of locations was pivotal to it.
Key filming locations of Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy
Hampstead
Hampstead played a key role in Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, as the place features a range of scenes in the film. We've got three places from the regions: Bridget's new home, the park where she climbs on a tree (this is where she meets the toxicity named Roxster), and a scene where she is seen with her gang.
The pub scenes in the film were shot at The Spaniards Inn. There's also a scene shot in La Cage Imaginaire where Bridget goes on her second date with Roxster (Leo Woodall).
Hammersmith
After missing the third film, Hugh Grant's Daniel Cleaver returned in Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy. The scene where he is at a pub to support his girlfriend's spoken word act is called Hope & Anchor pub. They got to film that scene, but that place was closed to the general public years ago.
The Tower Bridge
The people you see in this scene where Bridget is commuting to her office? All of them were actors. Yes, Morris told Time Out that there were hundreds of actors crossing the bridge in the scene.
Borough Market & Portobello Road
Yes, our lead has a new home in Hampstead, but Borough has been a key location for not just Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy but the entire series. In the film, the location is where the first date between Bridget and Roxster takes place.
After walking down the Borough Market, we see them in the Electric Dinner, which is located at Portobello Road.
Hertford Union Canal in Hackney Wick
While the place is beautiful, the ones who've watched the film know that this is where Bridget starts falling for the manboy. Filming this scene was actually fun—well, not for the crew, but for whoever was watching it. Morris remembers shouting, "We're shooting, we're shooting!" as the electric bikes flew by them.
The Lake District, Cumbria
The school trip scene was shot in The Lake District, Cumbria. This is probably the best scene in the entire film. There's nature, and there's Mr. Walliker, who bonds further with Billy.
Petersham House in Richmond
Petersham House is worth mentioning here as the crew was again lucky as the place is open only for a day in the entire year. The pool scene where Roxster suddenly appears in Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy was shot here.
