Blake Lively comes from a family where everyone belongs to the entertainment industry. Elaine Lively, Blake Lively’s mother, was a talent scout who helped young actors find roles in Hollywood. Because of her mother’s job, Blake grew up surrounded by actors and show business. Elaine played a big role in Blake’s career. She guided her and helped her get started in the industry. Blake thanked her mother in an interview with Today and shared that her mother gave her the best advice on motherhood. She said, "My mom was really great because my mom had a career and had five kids.” She added, "Don’t compromise one for the other. You can do both fantastically, and some days you’ll do both horribly. As long as you’re happy and give your family all the love and attention they need, it all sort of falls into place."

Her father, Ernie Lively, was an actor and director who appeared in many TV shows and movies. He even played Blake’s father in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. He is best known for his work in Passenger 57 (1992), Showdown in Little Tokyo (1991), Air America (1990), and Shocker (1989). Ernie and Elaine got married in 1979. He became stepfather to Elaine’s three kids from her previous marriage. He also took Elaine’s last name and dropped his last name, Brown. Blake talked about her father’s last name during the launch of her hair care line in New York and said, “Brown is my dad's name. My dad took Lively from my mom, which is her story to tell. It's a longer, much more interesting story," she added "But I just thought that was really cool. My mom had three kids and he was like, ‘I'm not going to take their name from them, I'm not going to make them take my name. I'll just take their name.’ That was before I was born, well before I was born."

Blake Lively has four older siblings, and all of them are involved in entertainment. She has two brothers, Eric and Jason Lively, and two sisters, Robyn and Lori Lively. Robyn Lively is best known for her role in the film Teen Witch and has acted in many TV shows. Jason Lively was in National Lampoon’s European Vacation, and Eric Lively has appeared in films and TV shows as well.
