Blackpink’s Jisoo is back on the screen with Newtopia, the latest zombie comedy series on Amazon Prime Video. This is Jisoo’s second acting venture since the hit series Snowdrop alongside Jung Hae-In. While in Snowdrop, she had a more serious role; here she shows off her surprising comic timing.
Jisoo’s performance in the show has been well-praised by her fans online, who could not get enough of her acting skills in the comedy series.
Newtopia’s cast delivers chaos and fun
Chaotic and hilarious, Newtopia takes on creepy zombies to deliver a one-of-a-kind comedy series. Starring Jisoo and Park Jeong-min in lead roles, Newtopia on Amazon Prime Video released two action-packed episodes recently. While, like any typical zombie outing, the show has its share of blood and gore, it is the core story around Jisoo’s mission to find her boyfriend within the frenzied setting of a zombie apocalypse that makes it an amusing watch.
In the show, Jisoo as Young-joo takes a rather naive and composed approach to her acting, making it more captivating to watch. Park Jeon-min, who was last seen in the Netflix original series The 8 Show, delivers a good portrayal of an honest, lovable character, Jae-yoon.
Whether it is Jae-yoon and his fellow soldier Ra In-ho facing the pressures of military responsibilities or Young-joo trying to deal with her indecision about her relationship, the story explores rudimentary human emotions even in a tumultuous world. While the two lead actors haven't had much screen time together yet, it is expected to change as the show goes on.
The Story So Far
The series is set in Seoul, where Kang Young-joo played by Jisoo takes the hesitant decision to take a break from her relationship with her boyfriend Lee Jae-yoon played by Park Jeong-min. Jae-yoon is serving in the military, which is stationed in Seoul’s tallest building.
We find him struggling between his soldier duties and trying to keep up with the long-distance relationship with his girlfriend. While on a dinner with a colleague from work, Young-joo’s world turns upside down. What follows is absolute pandemonium. From plane crash to popping eyeballs, the city becomes zombie infested within a short span of time. As the martial law is declared, citizens as well as military officials try to handle the situation that is fast getting out of control.
Newtopia promises more entertainment
The show may have horror elements in it; however, it is the slapstick comedy around the chases that makes the series unique. There is enough zombie sighting, and one may occasionally cringe at the amount of carnage, but the hysterical circumstances surrounding that will keep you hooked.
Newtopia, which is directed by Yoon Sunghyun, will have eight episodes, with the finale expected to air on March 21st. The show promises more action, drama, and fun in the coming episodes.
