Black Sherif talked about his music and creative process in an exclusive interview with The Guardian on February 13, 2024, stating:
"I try to be 100% vulnerable. Getting stories together don’t be like a big fight because I just say whatever happened, making it a bit more dramatic. Every time I’m writing music, I’m writing a play. I call it ‘drama in a voice pipe’.”
Black Sherif later added:
"Sometimes I make music and describe it with colours and Oil in My Head is white and blue because it just feels refreshing. Any time I play it I go outside and act it, because it’s a prayer. I manifest in Oil in My Head, appreciating I’m anointed. Everything I touch with a clean heart is going to turn gold.”
In an earlier interview with The Face on October 13, 2022, the singer describes his life experiences that shaped his music and talks about what he wants listeners to focus on while tuning into his works, stating:
"These are experiences that I can’t speak about fully because I’m not the only one that went through it so I try to guard it. What I can say is that life happened to me, there have been shared experiences with so many others and these experiences caused me so much pain and gave me scars that I still have today."
Black Sherif later added:
"What helped me was channelling all the hurt into music, that’s my coping mechanism.... There’s a lot to unpack there and people will take what applies to them. But I want people to focus on the positives from my journey and keep that with them. Because, ultimately, this is the story of a winner, despite how sad it might sound."
Black Sherif released his debut studio album, The Villain I Never Was, on October 6, 2022. The singer then released the double single, Take care of yourself Blacko, in 2023. In 2024, he released the track Rebel Music.
