The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) presents the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature every year in honor of the best animated feature film of that year.
According to the Academy, an animated feature is any movie that lasts longer than 40 minutes and features frame-by-frame character performances, a large number of animated characters, and animation that takes up at least 75% of the film's duration. In 2002, the Academy Awards for Best Animated Feature were first given to 2001 films.
