BAFTA 2025- All major leading nominations in movies this year

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has unwrapped the extremely awaited nominations for the year 2025 which means that the BAFTA 2025 award season is finally upon us all!

The BAFTA 2025 Awards are scheduled to take place on February 16, 2025 with David Tennant hosting the ceremony in London at Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall. The BAFTA 2025 will be broadcast live on BBC One and on BritBox International, making sure everyone – national & international gets an equal chance to watch and enjoy the ceremony alike.

Here’s to an excellent cinematic year:

The BAFTA 2025 nominations span a total of some 42 films which in turn display an outstanding variety of genres, themes, motifs, and of course – talent.

The leader of the herd with a stirring twelve nominations is Edward Berger’s political thriller Conclave, which talks about an intricate exploration of the private apostolical elections.

Running right behind is Jacques Audiard’s musical Emilia Pérez with a stunning 11 nominations which also includes a pioneering mention/nomination for Karla Sofía Gascón as the first openly trans woman and actress to be acclaimed at the 2025 BAFTA Awards.

Others running close in the race include the visually eye-catching film The Brutalist starring Adrien Brody & Joe Alwyn with 9 nominations while Anora, Wicked & Dune: Part Two each have got a hold of 7 nominations.

Both A Complete Unknown & Kneecap made their way out by securing 6 nominations each while Nosferatu & The Substance have secured 5 nominations each.

Surprises and oversights

While films like Emilia Pérez & Conclave have both equally caused much havoc in their names for securing the most number of nominations, some noteworthy oversights have been made by the BAFTA 2025 which have been fulling some level of discourse online.

Even though Wicked was a total box office success and has nominations with other categories in its name, the musical was not nominated for the Best Film Award at the BAFTA 2025 Awards which in turn now foreshadows doubts about receiving its win at the Oscars.

Only one category is a public voter-led category and that is the EE Rising Star Award which at the BAFTA 2025 showcases a flow of talent that is slowly rising.
