Hollywood Star Cameron Diaz is returning back to the screen after 11 years, joining hands with the Grammy and Oscar-winning star, Jamie Foxx. The star duo are all set to release their upcoming action comedy film Back In Action.
Back In Action is scheduled to release on January 17, 2025, on Netflix. The film was announced back in 2022, with the news of Cameron Diaz ending her retirement with this movie. Filming of Back In Action began in 2022 and ended in 2023.
About Back In Action and its plot
Directed by Seth Gordon, notable for his work in Baywatch and Horrible Bosses, this spy film is about a couple, Matt and Emily, who were ex-CIAs and are striving to leave behind their espionage past and restart their lives as a normal couple living in the suburbs and taking care of their children. But suddenly their past returns back to disrupt their peaceful present, as they can no longer hide behind their secret identities.
Seth Gordon also takes up the writers' seat this time, pairing up with Brenden O'Brien, who is noted for his work in Neighbors (2014). The film is produced by Chernin Entertainment, who is distinguished for producing highly successful films such as Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011), along with production companies, Exhibit A, and Good One.
How did Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx join together for a comeback?
As soon as the announcement of Diaz's comeback to Hollywood emerged, news about the film soon became headlines. It garnered more attention in 2023 with the news of Jamie Foxx's health condition that had put the film production on a halt for some time. In the latest 2024 Foxx's Netflix stand-up special, Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was..., he opened up about his medical condition, stating that a brain hemorrhage had led him to experience a stroke.
Back in 2018, Cameron Diaz announced her retirement from acting as she wished to give her focus and time to her family life and also to building her wine brand, 'Avaline'. It will also be a huge delight for Shrek fans, since Diaz will voice Princess Fiona for the upcoming sequel of the animated series, Shrek 5, releasing in 2026. For her comeback, it was Jamie Foxx who encouraged her to come out of her retirement and work in this film. Foxx opened up to ET about how he had made that happen. He asked her:
"Do you wanna have some fun? Just have some fun!' And I think that's what brought her to it.".
Interestingly, Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx had also previously collaborated in Any Given Sunday (1999) and Annie (2014).
