Shared by @MarvelNewsFilms on X, this news is creating much excitement as well as speculations among fans about when Brolin would make his next appearance in the MCU. The cast of the movie already seems star-studded.

We unpack every little thing that is known so far about Avengers: Secret Wars, from a change in cast to the release date, plot details, and where to catch it once it hits the theaters.

The studio officially announced Avengers: Secret Wars to be released on May 7, 2027. But the movie was advanced a few times after it was planned for an earlier release because of production changes such as director negotiations and lineup adjustments in Marvel Studios.

Fans were first introduced to the project during San Diego Comic-Con 2022 when Kevin Feige, Marvel's President, confirmed that Multiverse Saga Phase Six would conclude with Secret Wars.

The Russo Brothers (Anthony and Joe) are famous for Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, which they are coming back to helm on this epic project. It will be their first outing in the MCU since Endgame.

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed in July 2024 that the Russo Brothers will be behind not only Secret Wars, but its predecessor, Avengers: Doomsday, after months of speculation.

Avengers: Secret Wars cast and character lineup

Secret Wars will bring together some of the returning characters from the MCU, and some key heroes from the Fantastic Four and Thunderbolts. Fans should also be looking at Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm for this fantastic return.

IMDb reports that Robert Downey Jr. will play what is described as the surprise role of villainous Doctor Doom, putting on his hat and stepping into shoes other than Iron Man, which he has worn for decades.

This raises the interest among fans about his position within these interconnected stories and what presence Doctor Doom might hold on Secret Wars and Doomsday. As per reports, other characters are also to appear in the movie.

This includes other regular MCU protagonists: Sam Wilson, alias Anthony Mackie; Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova; Wyatt Russell's U.S. Agent; none of which are officially confirmed. Audiences and viewers are eagerly awaiting a film in which it stitches together its narrative with other epics and forms new friends and foes.

Avengers: Secret Wars plot speculation is that of a grand battle across the multiverse

Although Marvel has been very tight-lipped in terms of plot details, fans have speculated that Avengers: Secret Wars will explore the multiverse and gather characters from multiple storylines throughout the Marvel universe.

One of the most famous story arcs in Marvel Comics is Secret Wars, which details a battle staged by cosmic beings in which heroes and villains from all over multiverse universes fight one another on Battleworld. The arc opens up a possibility that Brolin's Thanos can return into the fray, allying with or opposed to Doom.

The X fans and IMDb discussions suggest that Secret Wars could be an endgame event that merges storylines from Endgame and Infinity War with newer multiverse themes, for a unique story that pays homage to the Marvel legacy.

If Thanos is to return in Avengers: Secret Wars, then fans feel it will be epic, just like how people went gaga for Brolin's possible appearance in the multiverse.

Avengers: Secret Wars will be released in theaters worldwide.

Most probably, after theatrical release, it will be released on the small screen on Disney+, as Marvel Studios has already signed a deal with Disney for this purpose.
