Avengers: Doomsday - Channing Tatum set to finally get his due after short role in Deadpool & Wolverine

Right before the conclusion of the slow-burning Avengers: Doomsday cast, Channing Tatum's personalized chair confirmed that Gambit is back in the game. The Russos are focused on the next big thing(s) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), and a barrage of characters will be there.

Considering that, getting lengthy screentime is a small likelihood for most of the characters who are to appear in Doomsday. But Gambit sure will be a part of a bigger thing than just a small battle in the Void, which he escaped, by the way, but we never got to see how.

But thanks to Ryan Reynolds, who plays our misfit Merc with a Mouth, Deadpool, who confirmed that some sorcerer showed Gambit the way out of the Void via one of those 'Marvel Sparkle Circles.'

We don't know where he is headed for, but we do know that something's not right in the world, or, well, Battleworld.

Channing Tatum has long been associated with the character

Although the card-throwing magician was first played by Taylor Kitsch in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009), rumors started picking up for a standalone Gambit film that would see Tatum filling in the trickster's shoes. In 2014, he officially signed the role.

Even after a decade, that film never got out of development hell. Then Deadpool & Wolverine happened last year. And though we got a slightly different Wolverine with the same face, we got some other known faces like Elektra (Jennifer Garner) and Blade (Wesley Snipes), with Tatum giving an impressive entrance as he catches a levitating card.

Now, we cannot expect Avengers: Doomsday to do justice with his unproduced film; we sure can expect it to give him a better opportunity on-screen to make an impact. Because we don't know if that film will ever be produced. That, and there were rumors of recasting surrounding X-Men, and Gambit's name was there.

Taking all this into consideration, this might be among Channing Tatum's final appearances as the character. But who knows? We can always consider the fact that there are actors playing certain characters who have been part of Marvel's film division for almost a quarter of a century now.

Gambit will officially join the X-Men in Avengers: Doomsday

Taylor Kitsch put up a good fight with Logan, aka the Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), in that alley behind the bar. Later, he agrees to take Logan to William Stryker's (Danny Huston) facility on Three Mile Island. He did save Wolverine from being buried under the rubble, but that cannot be labeled as a proper X-Men team-up.

Avengers: Doomsday is giving this a chance to the character where he will join six other X-Men, maybe more, given more cast members might get announced. If recasting rumors are true, then Channing Tatum should make the best out of this bit.

There's something more we need to consider. This team-up is happening within the Multiverse Saga; chances are, there might be variants of the same characters. So Channing Tatum could team up with Taylor Kitsch, too. If that happens, it could be in any of the two films, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Though that sounds too overwhelming. There are enough Deadpools already.

We already have a great roster for Avengers: Doomsday already, initially, and if more of them are coming, then Gambit might lose a little bit of screen time.
