Ash: Release date, plot, cast and more about Aaron Paul's upcoming science fiction thriller

The upcoming science fiction thriller Ash will be released on March 21, 2025. Directed by Flying Lotus and written by Jonni Remmler, Ash shall star Aaron Paul and Eiza González in the leading roles.

After having directed films in the horror genre, such as Kuso (2017), which was released at the Sundance Film Festival, and also directing a segment in the anthology horror film V/H/S/99 (2022), the prominent music composer and filmmaker Flying Lotus, this time comes with the science fiction thriller Ash.

Aaron Paul, who is well known for his work in Breaking Bad (2008-2013) and El Camino (2019), joins along with Eiza González from Baby Driver (2017) and I Care a Lot (2020) fame for Ash. As per Deadline, Flying Lotus talks about the duo by stating:

“We are building something fresh and unique with Ash and having Eiza and Aaron in this world just makes it flames. They are absolute magic makers, brave and equally inspiring. All that to say… We ‘bout to kill this sh*t.”

What is the plot of Ash?

Ash follows the plot of Riya (played by Eiza González), who finds herself stirred up in a faraway planet, and her crew associates in the space station have been murdered. However, Brion (played by Aaron Paul) is set to extricate her, but she is in a dilemma about whether or not to put her faith in him.

A trial of horrifying events takes place as Riya inquires into what actually happened. As per the official website of Ash, the synopsis reads:

"On the mysterious planet of Ash, Riya (González) awakens to find her crew slaughtered. When a man named Brion (Paul) arrives to rescue her, an ordeal of psychological and physical terror ensues while Riya and Brion must decide if they can trust one another to survive."

The trailer for Ash looks promising, intriguing, and gripping. The color palette of Ash looks fascinating, too, with primarily red and blue hues. The background score by Flying Lotus also seems exciting. In the trailer, we hear the voices of Riya and Brion, with him enquiring her about what she remembers about the event.

Who do we see in Ash?

Initially, actors Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Tessa Thompson were reported to be cast in the roles of Riya and Brion for Ash. Eventually, Eiza González and Aaron Paul were roped in for the lead cast. Along with them, Flying Lotus will be seen acting in the film as well, essaying the role of Davis. The cast of Ash also includes:

As per Deadline, the producers of Ash- Matthew Metcalfe and Nate Botolin jointly express their excitement as they mention:

“At the helm of the visionary artist Flying Lotus, and now in collaboration with the incredibly talented Eiza González and Aaron Paul, we are excited to embark on this journey to bring the unique world of Ash to life.”

Ash is produced under the banner of XYZ Films, GFC Films, and IPR.VC. It is distributed by RLJE Films, along with Amazon Prime Video and Shudder. Ash will be released in the United States on March 21, 2025.
