As Jurassic World Rebirth nears, what happened to the original Jurassic Park franchise's cast and where are they now?

It's been over three decades since Tim and Lex Murphy experienced their first encounter with that goat-eating Tyrannosaurus Rex in Jurassic Park. After that, five more feature films were developed; Jurassic Park became Jurassic World, a soft reboot of the original one, and now the reboot is being reborn as Jurassic World Rebirth.

Gareth Edwards, who knows a fair deal about monsters and dinosaurs (read that Godzilla), is directing. Jurassic World Rebirth is coming up with a set of new actors; among them are Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey, and more.

But before we venture off to watch Jurassic World Rebirth, we should take a look back at the original cast that gave the push to this Jurassic ride. A few of them reprised their role recently, but it is unlikely that'll happen again. Let's see them now.

A look at the original cast before Jurassic World Rebirth arrives

Richard Attenborough

Let's begin with the main man, John Hammond, who created Jurassic Park, created by his company, InGen (read more about it here), in the story. Richard Attenborough plays the character in the film, where he first introduces Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler to this world. His words still echo in that hair-raising scene where they see a Brachiosaurus chowing down on those leaves

"Welcome, to Jurassic Park".

Sir Attenborough left us on August 24, 2014, after a well-lived life at the age of 90.

Joseph Mazzello

Then come Hammond's grandchildren; one of them is Tim Murphy, the one who felt those vibrations from the T-Rex's movements and saw those ripples in the water, indicating the threat is near.

He has come a long way in his acting career, where he was a part of Queen's band, John Deacon, in the Academy Award-winning musical drama Bohemian Rhapsody (2018).

Ariana Richards

If you want to label someone as a scream queen, Ariana Richards, who plays Lex Murphy, sister of Tim, is your girl. Horror or not, that scream will literally send chills down your spine. In case you still haven't seen the film, head over to the 6:20 minute mark in the video above to hear it yourself. We shouldn't expect to see Lex in Jurassic World Rebirth until ScarJo is playing her disguised as a covert operation expert.

Ariana Richards isn't really focusing on acting anymore; she's more inclined to her art, painting to be precise. If you want to see her works, she has compiled them on Gallery Ariana, her art website.

Jeff Goldblum

Jeff Goldblum took a hiatus from being a gifted mathematician and a chaos theorist, Ian Malcolm, and found himself in magical worlds playing a not-so-good-guy, having fun in films like Thor: Ragnarok (2017) and more recently in Wicked (2024).

Though he briefly made his return in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) and Jurassic World Dominion (2022), he eventually picked the right side to be at.

Laura Dern

If there's someone we can call a proper, dedicated individual serious about their work, it's paleobotanist Ellie Sattler. Iconic actress Laura Dern plays the iconic character. We thought using iconic would be right given the celebrated history of the actress, which includes accolades like the Golden Globe, BAFTA, Academy, and more.

She also returns in Jurassic World Dominion, and now the actress is looking forward to her upcoming films, Jay Kelly and Is This Thing On?.

Sam Neill

And now, the savior, Alan Grant. Thanks to him, Tim and Lex made it to the end of the film. Sam Neill plays the paleontologist who, like Laura and Jeff, was in Jurassic World Dominion. He appears to be quite afraid of locusts, but it's alright; the size of them can give anyone the creeps.

Neill went from a beloved character in 1993 (and more) to a hated one when he portrayed Major Chester Campbell in Peaky Blinders. But you'll love him again when you see him playing Odin in Thor: Love and Thunder. And like we said, neither of the three is likely to appear in Jurassic World Rebirth.
