Woody and Buzz Lightyear are likely to see a new adventure in Toy Story 5. At least the latter will, as Tim Allen has returned to lend his voice to the iconic space ranger. He has already done a five-hour voiceover session for the film, as he confirmed Collider in an interview.

It is a story about toys doing their deeds when the owner is not around and landing themselves in some interesting circumstances, overcoming them together. It mainly focuses on Woody and Buzz only, whereas Tom Hanks plays Woody in the film.

Tom Hanks and Tim Allen both have returned to voice the characters in all four films and they are coming together again for Toy Story 5. The last film saw the toy best friends parting their ways but now it's not the end of the story. There is one spin-off in the franchise called Lightyear that came in 2022 that solely focuses on the space ranger, where Chris Evans played Buzz.

The franchise broke the typical trilogy trend with Toy Story 4, 'to infinity and beyond', as Buzz would say. He says,

It’s really, really weird to get back in it. I can’t tell you anything.

To assure him, it's not weird for the fans but something of joyful news. Allen was up and ready for more sequels during the same year Toy Story 4 was released. Mark Nielson, producer of the film, also showed confidence in the future Pixar projects following Pete Docter's joining in the studio.

While Tim Allen's recent words convey that the film's development is in full swing, he already confirmed that Toy Story 5 is happening last year.

Pete Docter too added to this last year only by teasing that there will be "some really cool stuff" that the fans haven't seen before. He later confirmed Woody's return in an interview with Variety.

For those still thinking about the confirmation, the film hit theaters in June 2026. That means a lot of work is yet to go in there, especially when there's 'cool stuff' in it.

The plot for the film isn't out there but it will be a 'classic toys vs. tech' theme. To that end, nostalgia won't be the end goal for Toy Story 5, but a take on the cool gadgets that have taken over today's generation.

Pixar's Andrew Stanton is directing Toy Story 5, who, like Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, has been part of the franchise since the very beginning. Directing and co-directing Finding Nemo and A Bug's Life respectively got him an Academy Award for his work. Given the returning cast and crew, it is something to look forward to.

With the return of beloved characters, iconic voice actors, and the promise of fresh adventures, Toy Story 5 is shaping up to be an exciting continuation of the franchise. Fans can expect a heartwarming yet thrilling blend of nostalgia and innovation, as Woody, Buzz, and the rest of the gang face new challenges in a rapidly evolving world. June 2026 can't come soon enough!
