Apartment 7A is a prequel to the classic 1968 Roman Polanksi film: Rosemary's Baby. It is a backstory for Terry Gionoffrio, whose fate had been kept hanging in the balance. Julia Garner plays out Terry's sad case as she arrives to live with the old and kind Castevets in that infamous apartment building.

Terry is drawn into the evil scheme of a coven who will do anything in their power to use her as a vessel for the Anti-Christ to find its way into this world. Terry, overwhelmed by horror at what this means and unable to escape, makes the terrible choice to take her own life as the movie reaches its shocking end.

This dramatic scene directly brings her into the brief cameo in Rosemary's Baby, where she is referred to as the woman who tragically plunged to her death. What made her do this and how does it connect to the film? Let's explore Terry's gruesome end.

Warning: The following article contains major spoilers for the 2024 horror prequel to Rosemary's Baby, Apartment 7A.

Terry Gionoffrio is a young dancer who is struggling in her career after getting injured. Her ankle turns into a focal point for the rest of her life.

Here, we have the Castevets, Roman (Kevin McNally) and Minnie (Dianne Wiest), who seem to be a lifeline for her. They offer her a free apartment in their building, but we soon find out that their intentions are far from good.

The Castevets seem to be a part of a coven, and they aim to make use of Terry as a vessel to give birth to the Anti-Christ. Terry realizes the intention of the coven, and her desire to get out is met with supernatural resistance.

Terry realizes she is pregnant with the Anti-Christ, and in her attempt to abort the child, she is foiled by a dark, demonic force. For her last gesture of defiance, she leaps out from her apartment window, choosing death rather than help give birth to evil.

Apartment 7A: How Terry’s fate differs from Rosemary’s

Although both films are comparable in terms of the satanic cult working through women to affect the two protagonists, Apartment 7A and Rosemary's Baby have very different endings. For instance, while Terry commits suicide in Apartment 7A, Rosemary decides to raise her son whom she thinks is the devil's child.

It was Terry's ambition that helped her to be a successful dancer. However, it first blinded her to the true motives of the Castevets. She is offered fame and success in exchange for bearing a child. This is what entraps her and ends in helplessness.

On the other hand, in the other film, Mia Farrow plays the role of Rosemary. She gets pregnant and decides to keep it to herself. Even when Rosemary finally learns the truth about the child, her maternal instincts drive her to take care of it. She thinks she has a hold on its fate.

The situation is reversed in Apartment 7A by a character who refuses to comply with the wishes of the coven and dies preventing the birth of the Anti-Christ.

The manipulation by the coven is what drives both films. In Apartment 7A, the methods applied by the coven are more direct and violent. Terry is not only physically violated but also experiences frightening hallucinations.

She even encounters a demon wearing gemstones, as Decider noted. The figure represents Satan, which symbolizes the price that Terry needs to pay for her ambition. According to Screen Rant, the coven deals with Terry in a way that preys on her desperation for success.

It ultimately traps her in a nightmare from which she may never wake. In the process, she prevents the plans of the coven to create a satanic offspring and therefore does not become a pawn in their wicked game. This leads to all the subsequent events in the classic: Rosemary's Baby.

The coven now turns its attention to Rosemary and her husband, Guy Woodhouse.
