The 2017 action thriller film American Renegades didn't get the attention when it was released. But fans are talking about it as it's climbing up on the Netflix streaming charts. It's already one of the best films of the month on the streaming platform right now.

It stars J.K. Simmons, Sullivan Stapleton, Charlie Bewley, and more in the film. Critics, upon its release, praised Simmons' performance in the film but that was all. From the plot to other performances, most of them were on the same boat. As of now, the film has an approval rating of 11% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, it has a better score on IMDb with a rating of 5.5 out of 10.

This is military-level stuff where a team of soldiers goes after a buried stash of gold that can help the people affected by war. Sadly, it failed to grab the stash of box office gold and proved to be a commercial disaster, gaining $2.2 million against its $77.5 million budget.

In American Renegades, he is the leader of the NAVY SEAL team. He is the one who fights the thugs who are after Lara, a waitress in possession of a gold ingot. Later it is revealed that there's more that can help people in a war-torn country.

J.K. Simmons as Rear Admiral J. Levin

He plays Rear Admiral J. Levin in American Renegades and was probably the reason critics were in favor of the film for his performance. He is the commanding officer of the NAVY SEAL team whose actions caused the members' suspension. However, Levin respected the act of courage they showed in the film.

The actor has worn many hats, and his performances, like in Whiplash, are just savory for a moviegoer. Other than that, we know him best for his portrayal of J. Jonah Jameson. That laugh is never getting old any time soon.

Sylvia Hoeks as Lara Simic

Sylvia Hoeks is Lara Simic in American Renegades and the same waitress Matt saves from thugs. She is the one who reveals everything about the gold ingots the thugs were after. Later, she, alongside the team, is able to extract the gold and do the necessary.

Hoeks is a Dutch actress known for her roles in films like Blade Runner 2049 and The Girl in the Spider's Web. In the latter, she plays the sister Lisbeth Salander from The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Charlie Bewley as Stanton Baker

Stanton Baker is the one having an affair with Lara in the film and a member of the NAVY SEAL team. Given that, he supports the cause and helps the team recover the gold.

The actor is better known for playing a vampire hunter, Galen Vaughn, and a vampire, Demetri, in The Twilight Saga. His other works include Nashville, Extant, and Colony, where he appeared in recurring roles.
