Almost EGOT: List of Celebrities who are one award shy from joining the elite club

EGOT refers to the highest accolade in Hollywood. However, a celebrity does not have to win only one award to receive it, instead, they have to be the jack of all trades and receive one Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony each. As the honor is a difficult one to achieve, only a few people have so far received it.

The list includes: Richard Rodgers, Rita Moreno, Helen Hayes, John Gielgud, Marvin Hamlisch, Audrey Hepburn, Jonathan Tunick, Mike Nichols, Mel Brooks, Scott Rudin, Whoopi Goldberg, Robert Lopez, Tim Rice, Andrew Lloyd Webber, John Legend, Jennifer Hudson, Alan Menken, Elton John, Viola Davis, Benj Pasek, and Justin Paul.

In the non-competitive category, Barbra Streisand, James Earl Jones, Liza Minnelli, Harry Belafonte, Frank Marshall, and Quincy Jones have received the honor.

From Adele to Hugh Jackman, there is a long list of celebrities who are only one award away from the EGOT.

Adele

The British singer won an Emmy in 2022, has a total of 16 Grammys, and an Oscar in 2013, but has never been nominated for a Tony Award.

Kate Winslet

The Titanic star is just a Tony Award away from the EGOT. She has won two Emmy Awards in 2011 and 2021, a Grammy in 2000, and an Oscar in 2009.

Billy Porter

Porter won an Emmy in 2019, a Grammy in 2014, and two competitive Tony Awards in 2013 and 2022. An Oscar trophy, for which he has never been nominated, is keeping him away from the grand slam.

Lin-Manuel Miranda

Lin-Manuel Miranda has won two Emmys, five Grammys, and three Tonys so far. He has been nominated twice for an Oscar but never won.

While Cher has many other accolades, she is not in the elite club of EGOT. She has an Emmy, a Grammy, and an Oscar, but has yet to receive a Tony Award.

Midler has three Emmys, two Grammys, and two Tonys. While she has been nominated for an Oscar twice, she has never won.

Cynthia Nixon

Nixon won two Emmys in 2004 and 2008, a Grammy in 2009, and two Tonys in 2006 and 2017. She is an Oscar away from the EGOT.
