Barbie blew audiences across the world when it was released in cinema halls in July 2023. Initially, it was believed that Barbie would not have a sequel. However, that may not be the case, thanks to a report from The Hollywood Reporter on December 13th, 2024.
Will there be a sequel to Barbie?
As stated before, The Hollywood Reporter states that Greta Gerwig and her partner Noah Baumbach have met with the studio executives at WBD to pitch an idea for the sequel of Barbie that's in its nascent stages. However, representatives of both the filmmakers and WBD denied this story. Gerwig and Baumbach's representative said:
“There is no legitimacy to this reporting”
The WBD spokesperson also released a similar statement to the press:
“THR’s reporting is inaccurate.”
What is Barbie About?
Based on the popular Mattel toys, Barbie follows Barbie and Ken, who enjoy idyllic lives in Barbieland. However, Barbie decides to discover herself and the truth by traveling to the real world. Ken joins her in this journey of self-discovery and learns a few things from the real world that will change the social fabric of the entire Barbieland as the residents know it.
