The Alien franchise is set to take its next leap to the small screen with Noah Hawley's Alien: Earth, starring Sydney Chandler, Timothy Olyphant, and Alex Lawther. The series will be released on FX and will be a joint venture between 20th Television, FX Productions, and Scott Free Productions.
Viewers have got glimpses from the long-running horror sci-fi franchise's latest rendition with the release of Alien: Earth's first teaser trailer. The show's story is based on events from almost three decades before 1979's Alien (directed by Ridley Scott).
In August 2024, director and creator Hawley confirmed in a statement that filming has been wrapped and production is on track. He further added:
"I'm in post, editing away. Obviously, there’s a large visual effects component that takes time. But I couldn’t be happier with the show that we shot. If people wanted a television series based on the world of Alien, I think I’m going to give them something special."
What do we know about the release window of Alien: Earth?
Alien: Earth's exact release date has not been confirmed yet. However, the series is set to be released in 2025 (first half), as per multiple reports. Noah Hawley reportedly said in a statement that there had been unexpected delays related to the pandemic. Moreover, fitting the schedule of Fargo Season 5 has also been a task.
But he has also confirmed that filming has been completed, and everything on the production schedule is right on track. According to reports, Hulu will oversee the shows' distribution in the United States, and Disney + will take care of it globally.
What is the plot of Alien: Earth?
As multiple sources have confirmed, the upcoming Alien series will be a prequel set almost 30 years before the events of Alien (1979). Though the exact time and place are unknown, in the fictional timeline, the story dates forward to the 2090s.
As the title goes, the show centers on a distant future Earth while exploring some of the competitors of Weyland-Yutani Corporation. Showrunner Hawley has confirmed in a statement saying that the series will focus:
"on competitors to the Weyland-Yutani Corporation, all of whom have their own plans for synthetic humans."
So, it suggests that there might be equally nefarious methods to unveil the secret to eternal life. As per Hawley, the Xenomorphs will hit Earth and be unleashed upon human beings as they change depending on 'whatever the host is.'
