Stanley Tucci recently spoke about his role in the first Captain America film and had nothing but praise for his experience.

This year, the actor has been receiving high praise for his performance in Edward Berger's Conclave, which also earned him a SAG award nomination. He recently spoke with folks at Variety about his experience of working on this critically acclaimed project. During this conversation, he also spoke fondly about different kinds of projects he has been a part of, whether big or small.

While working on smaller independent films with big hearts, he also holds bigger projects in high regard. During this interview, he briefly spoke about working on a giant blockbuster like Marvel's Captain America: The First Avenger. Here's what he said,

"I loved Captain America: The First Avenger, it was one of the greatest roles and jobs I’ve ever had. I was there for three weeks and had a wonderful time, and I also loved playing that character."

Let's find out what else he shared about this Marvel role.

Stanley Tucci reflects on his Captain America role: Details revealed

Stanley Tucci, known for his performances in The Devil Wears Prada (2006) and The Hunger Games (2012), has worked on a variety of projects throughout his career. From lighthearted comedies like Easy A (2010) and The Terminal (2004) to more somber dramas like Spotlight (2015), he has done it all. Even after playing all these, he admires the role he received in the first Captain America film.

In this MCU film, Stanley Tucci played Dr Abraham Erskine, the scientist behind the Super Soldier Serum, who allowed Steve Rogers, aka Captain America to enlist in their program. He speaks fondly about working on similar "fun big movies" and calls his role "one of the greatest roles and jobs he has ever had".

Even though Stanley Tucci looks back fondly at this experience, he had some reservations at the time. While speaking about them, he says:

"I was cast as a 70-year-old man at the age of 50, so that was disturbing, but that’s all right; I was flattered and insulted at the same time … You have to mix it up, as they say."

Stanley Tucci also spoke about his experience working on independent films like Harry Macqueen's acclaimed independent film, Supernova (2020), which he holds dear. He sees his various projects as a balancing act.

Speaking about Conclave, he is satisfied with the reception the film has received. The film revolves around the highly secretive process of selecting the new pope. He spoke about the surprising audience reception for this rather serious film:

"I’m shocked at the diversity of the audience. Also, this [Conclave] is a very adult film. But it’s not pretentious. It simply shows you what’s happening. And these people are making it happen or failing and fumbling to make it happen, and I think that’swhy people like it."

Stanley Tucci was previously nominated for an Oscar for his performance in Peter Jackson's The Lovely Bones. Considering the reception for Conclave and its BAFTA nomination sweep, he might be on his way to another Oscar nod.
