A Minecraft Movie controversy: Who is Valkyrae, and why were her scenes cut from the Jason Momoa film?

A Minecraft Movie was released on April 4, 2025, by Warner Bros. Pictures and met with mostly mixed critical response; it holds a 48% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The film has managed to do well at the box-office. This Jared Hess directorial is based on the 2011 video game Minecraft.

There has been a report that online streamer and YouTuber Valkyrae's scene was cut from the film. Rachell Marie Hofstetter, popularly known as Valkyrae, is a 33-year-old streamer and YouTube personality living in Los Angeles.

The cameo of several online streamers, including Valkyrae, was removed from A Minecraft Movie. Valkyrae co-owns 100 Thieves, a gaming and lifestyle brand. Besides that, she also owns Hihi Studios, which works in the media field. Over the years, she has gained a strong fan following on Twitch and YouTube with her gaming live streams.

In a live stream video on Twitch, Valkyrae confirmed the same. She said,

"Let’s just say I’m not gonna touch too much on it but as much as you guys saw the other creators that were in it, would have been the equal amounts that you saw me in it, which is like 30 seconds. So it’s okay."

She further added,

"I would much rather not have that 30 seconds than be sued. So it’s all good, okay? It’s all good. It really was a wonderful 10 days in New Zealand for that 30 seconds, and I’m really glad I got to visit New Zealand. I feel like things could have been so much worse, you know what I mean? That’s all I’m going to say about it, okay. That’s all I’m going to say. It’s not even Minecraft. It’s not even their fault. Don’t even worry. Don’t worry.”

In the same livestream video, the streamer shared her views on the film.

“No, the movie did not suck. I thought it was good. I actually thought it was good.”

A user on Reddit spotted the streamer in one of the moments in the film. Last year, Valkyrae mentioned Jason Momoa, one of the actors in A Minecraft Movie, when asked about her worst celebrity experience.

She said,

“I just saw him mistreat some of the crew. And it was pretty disappointing. It was after a very intense scene, and it was a very emotional scene, so maybe he was still in character. I don't know. But I just was surprised at how he treated some of the crew. He was just really mad at them that they weren’t doing something right.”

She continued about the actor's behavior on set,

“It was setting up the shot and stuff, and he was angry, like really mad, and like yelling. So I was like, man, this is not a good work environment. I would not be happy working under these conditions. I would have to say that was the worst celebrity thing I’ve seen.”
