What is A Deadly American Marriage about?

A Deadly American Marriage focuses on the murder of Jason Corbett, who was a widower from Ireland. He got married to an American lady named Molly Martens in 2008, and he had two children. Corbett was killed on August 2, 2015, by Molly and her ex-FBI agent father, Thomas Martens. Initially, they claimed that it was an act of self-defence, but eventually pleaded guilty. However, in June 2024, the two were released from prison. Despite their release, questions revolving around Jason's death and their motivation persist within the public.

The film has the interviews of Molly, Thomas, and Jason's two kids: Jack and Sarah, along with others. Jason's sister Tracey Corbett-Lynch, as well as his brother-in-law David, also share their perspective on the entire event.

Sarah and Jack live in Ireland with Tracey and David. Before marrying Molly, Jason was married to Margaret Fitzpatrick, referred to as "Mags", with whom he had Jack and Sarah. All of them lived in Limerick.

In November 2006, Margaret passed away due to an asthma attack just months after Sarah's birth. Jason named Tracey and David in his will as his kids' guardians in case of his sudden demise. Two years later, in 2008, he hired Molly Martens through an au pair agency. She was from Tennessee and began working for Jason, and the two eventually got engaged. Afterwards, in 2011, Jason shifted to Lexington, North Carolina, where the duo got married and started living together. Tom Martens, Molly's father, was an FBI agent.

Several years have passed, but there is still some mystery surrounding the case. Viewers can hope that the documentary film will be able to provide some context through the interviews of different perspectives of the people involved in the case. Besides interviews, the film will also showcase archive interrogation footage of people, crime, as well as scene recreations to tell a comprehensive tale.
