Kraven the Hunter introduced Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Marvel's much-loved antihero. The character appeared in the comics as an adversary to Spider-Man. Eventually, it became a part of Sony's Spider-Man Universe. Their films did not receive the warmest critical reception, but they were often admired by the fans. Similarly, Taylor-Johnson's film received a fair share of mixed reactions. Some may have bashed it while others liked it for a number of reasons.
For starters, Kraven the Hunter features exciting, action-packed scenes that can appease the adrenaline junkies. It puts an antihero at the center of its narrative, which allows it to explore his complicated morality. Below are a few movies that you should give a chance if you liked Kraven the Hunter.
Venom (2018)
Much like Kraven the Hunter, Venom is a part of Sony's Spider-Man Universe. Tom Hardy starred as journalist Eddie Brock, who starts investigating a company's questionable experiments with human trials. Accidentally, he falls prey to a similar procedure that turns him into a superhuman. Riz Ahmed stars as the villain, Carlton Drake. The film was a commercial success and has achieved a cult film-like status among its fans. It presents a dark, gritty atmosphere in the life of a Marvel comic character that Kraven fans might get a kick out of.
Upgrade (2018)
Australian filmmaker Leigh Whannell is a part of Universal's Dark Universe with films like The Invisible Woman and Wolf Man. However, besides these more mainstream projects, he also worked on Upgrade, a dystopian thriller set in a futuristic world. Whannell wrote and directed this film, which followed a technophobe seeking revenge against a man who killed his wife. Backed by Blumhouse Productions, this film received mostly favorable reviews. It can be an interesting follow-up as an action-packed revenge thriller after Kraven the Hunter.
John Wick (2014)
John Wick needs no introduction since Keanu Reeves has made this character iconic over the years. The first film was released in 2014 and introduced us to the revenge-fueled assassin. Then, the next three films showed him going on a killing rampage against those who wronged him. They all feature sleek action scenes set in the cityscapes, admittedly some of the finest, making them a suitable choice if Kraven fans are looking for something in that lane.
The Grey (2011)
The Grey follows Taken star Liam Neeson as a wolf hunter who helps a group of plane crash survivors survive in the harsh weather. He leads them through the snow against the relentless attacks of wolves. Much like Kraven, this 2011 film features rousing action scenes. Overall, it is a compelling survival thriller set in the wilderness with some standout performances. For these reasons, Kraven fans might like it as well.
The Punisher (2004)
Thomas Jane stars as Frank Castle in The Punisher, a vigilante thriller that shows an FBI agent's tale of revenge against a corrupt businessman who killed his family. John Travolta, Rebecca Romijn, and Laura Harring star in key roles in this film, which follows a morally complex anti-hero in a crooked tale of vengeance. For these thematic similarities, Kraven the Hunter fans might enjoy the 2004 film.
