5 movies you shouldn't miss if you loved Anya Taylor-Joy's The Gorge

5) Annihilation (2018) by Alex Garland

This 2018 sci-fi movie, Annihilation, starring Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez, and many more, is bound to be added to this list.

It follows the plot of a group of experts who join together to investigate an unusual life-threatening phenomenon. As they dig deeper into this, they unravel a whole other world involving aliens and mutations taking place.

Much like The Gorge, this Lovecraftian film is a blend of sci-fi, action, and horror elements. Thematically, they share a common ground, as grief and death are prevalent in both these films.

4) Alien (1979) by Ridley Scott

This, yet another Sigourney Weaver starrer film, also draws parallels to Weaver's newly released The Gorge. Alien also stars Tom Skerritt, Veronica Cartwright, John Hurt, etc.

Alien follows the plot of a spaceship team named "Nostromo," who face the horrors of a xenomorphic creature as they are on their way to their home planet.

Even though The Gorge has no alien involvement, in both films, we see the involvement of a nonhuman, bizarre creature posing a threat to human life.

Interestingly, Sigourney Weaver, in both of these films, has played roles on the opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of characterization. In Alien, her character Ripley was fighting to survive and annihilate the creature, whereas, in The Gorge, she is more of an antagonistic character who enables it.

3) Predator (1987) by John McTiernan

The Arnold Schwarzenegger starrer Predator follows the plot of a military team who has been assigned the task of safeguarding the people in a forest area. As forces of a deadly extraterrestrial entity endanger lives in the forest, this guerrilla army team joins to chase them down.

In The Gorge, the central characters Drasa (played by Anya Taylor-Joy) and Levi (Miles Teller) were put in a lush, mysterious forest-like area where they had to protect the boundaries of a gorge.

In both of these films, a group of skilled armed people are tasked with the colossal responsibility of safeguarding others from a bizarre creature. Actors Carl Weathers, Elpidia Carrillo, Bill Duke, and many more star in Predators.

2) The Mist (2007) by Frank Darabont

Followed by the aftermath of a thunderstorm, this mist engulfs the town as a group of people inside a supermarket find themselves captivated inside it. Some grotesque, lethal creatures erupt and cause danger to people's lives.

In this film and The Gorge, the quest for survival of human life is vital to the film's plot. The Mist stars Thomas Jane, Marcia Gay Hayden, Laurie Holden, and many others.
